i know that the nvidia generates more heat, but if i use the laptop on my laps a lot, will i feel the difference? (i won't game on it, only watch movies and surf)

    thanks a lot.

I have the 140M on my T61 and I use it on my lap all the time. No noticeable heat for me except under the touchpad (where the RAM is I think) and a little heat dissipating from the top left vent.

I don't know about the difference, but my t61 14.1" wide with the nvida card is quite usable on my lap. It gets a little warm on the left side near the back. But nothing compared to my old dell 15" that was uncomfortably warm, or my even older g4 ti-book that would leave burn marks on my leg.

    thanks.
So the heat is not coming from the 140M area for sure?

I'm not positive where the video card actually sits but where ever it is, it's not hot at all when you're doing general activities.

If you don't plan on gaming or running graphic intensive programs, I think you should go with the Intel card. You'll get a nice chunk of extra battery life as well.

Then again, if you want the dedicated card for extra lcd settings or future-proof reasons, then it makes sense to get it.

    Arkit3kt,

    ta for ur helpful comments.
i have chatted with a lenovo sales person on there website, and she said that for HD i should use the 140m. although i wont play much hd i prefer to buy one that can handle hd fine.

i dont know about you guys, but the 140m couldn't even handle call of duty 4 at 1280x800 w/ medium settings... very choppy... i never bought this laptop for extreme gaming so i love it anyways

Well...the current ThinkPads only have VGA output and I don't think that is capable of HD.

I think it's worth the $75 if you plan to future proof your laptop. Buying a T9300 after market would cost much, much more than $75.

depends on what you mean by hd.
720p (1280x720) works with no prob on my x3100 (pumping it out to my 32'' Samsung LCD TV).
    I don't have a way of testing a 1080p/i.
I think blue ray requires an HDMI port to play on an external device so that may hold you back, I could be wrong.

As far as heat, after an hour, my lap is uncomfortably warm. I wouldn't call it hot, my Toshiba a65 laptop is HOT. This is just warm enough that I find my self lifting it off my lap to let things air out.

I always thought HD needed 1920 x 1080, to display full 1080p and you can certainly get that, and more, through the VGA using an external monitor with either intel or nvida card. Its analog, but it is real HD.

FYI, my T61 Quadro NVS 140M temps is at 50c (122F), under normal usage (web browsing). My system has Windows Aero Turn off (vista basic theme).
