Hey guys, I'm trying to configure a T500 laptop and was wondering how useful intel turbo memory is. I know this has been discussed before, but some posts indicate improvement while others say performance/battery increases are marginal. Have there been any advances in the drivers/software recently? BTW, my configuration would have 4 gb of memory and a 5400 rpm hard drive, if that makes a difference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's still not worth the money. Save up instead for an SSD, which will provide a much, much, more significant performance boost.

use that money for a 7.2k drive...
and SSD's are great... but cost 10x more per gb as normal hdd's

I purchased my T500 with 2G Turbo Memory, so I can't tell if it helps or not. I have nothing to compare to. But my system is extremely fast and I would buy it again.

All the negative press/opinions about Turbo Memory is based on one review of the 1G Turbo Memory published years ago. I don't put a lot value on that old review of the 1G system.

if you have more than 2GB of RAM, adding a turbo memory module will actually slow your system down

there is absolutely no reason for you to add turbo memory
doing so would hurt your system

well you can get faster boot/hibernation (in theory) via windows readydrive. you can also pin programs to the turbo memory via intel's turbo memory dashboard for faster launches (again, in theory)

I don't think there are any grounds for that statement. It is true that Turbo Memory would slow down a system with an SSD - in fact, I believe Windows disables it if it detects an SSD.

Theoretically, I'm sure the Turbo Memory module does provide benefits. What I'm saying, though, is that the benefits are not worth the cost of the module, when that money could be put towards a lightning-fast SSD or, as davidkneiber suggested, a good 7200RPM drive.

I opted to get the Turbo Memory when I bought my T61. From what I have read, it's supposed to access the files/websites/documents/etc. that you use the most quicker then if you did not have turbo memory. That's about all it does. To me, it does not make that much of a difference then using a computer without it. I probably would invest my $50.00 elsewhere.
