Anyone here know an ETA for the SL9600?
I am waiting for it for a long time now.

Do you mean P9600? SL9600 won't be compatible w/ notebooks since it will be soldered in vs. the former's socketed drop-in upgrade.
-
The SL9600 should be available for the x200s and x200T.
I saw it pop up on the main Lenovo site a week or two back for $50 more than the SL9400. However, it promptly disappeared.
It's still available through academic ordering. However, the upgrade price for the SL9600, as well as the SU9400/SU9600, are rather high (SL9600 or SU9600 is $143.50 more than SL9400). -
Lenovo likes to play games. I saw it as an option for the X200s, and it was $75 more than the SL9400.
-
Yes, i need the SL9600 to build for my x200s.
By the way, lenovo cpp has lower their x200s's price today. Sweet if the SL9600 will be poped up soon. -
There won't be much performance difference compared to a SL9400. Most day-to-day apps will still function at the same speed. Typically CPU upgrades don't yield much performance gain, compared to say upgrading the HDD due to the HDD being the rate (speed) limiting factor in a notebook.

Agree.
But i wanna to use the X200s for 2-3 years, which is better for me to upgrade it to SL9600 considering for a small money.
Wait for another week and see.

Is there any news of the SL9600 for the X200s in North America yet?
If not, is it likely that it will be released in the next month?
I have called Lenovo Canada twice now, and they seem to think it wont be released until the September. But as it was on the Canadian and US website recently, I'm hoping they are wrong.
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks! -
Im also waiting all thetime for SL9600 to appear ... I hope when the time come to put order it will be available.
I dont like when Lenovo plays games with customers ... especially when they want to order something -
270MHz hardly seems worth waiting for. You'd only notice a difference when your CPU is running at 100%, even then the difference will be very small. You're better off spending the money on a faster hard drive or more memory.

In a few years, there will still be very little difference in the CPUs.
-
Thanks for your feedback, and I agree with your assessment. I appreciate the perspective.
It's only hard when it's been on the North American web sites before, and it's released in Europe now. It's certainly not a deal breaker for me, but, it's a nice to have.
Thanks! -
The SL9600 is available through a handful of portals (mainly academic) in the US right now (for a substantial premium).
If you really want the SL9600 and don't have direct access to those portals, I suggest you call Lenovo sales and see if they will work with you (the part obviously exists).
That being said, I have been extremely satisfied with the performance of the SL9400 and don't think the small bump in performance is worth the substantial price premium (good idea at $50, but not at $150 in my mind). -
Thanks for the info!
I thought the price increase was going to be $50 more (the price increase when it was listed in Canada). I didn't realize it might possibly be $150 more. I'd have to agree, at that price, I'd have to skip it.
Well, with what's been said here, I guess I'll see what the best coupon is in the next couple of weeks and pull the trigger. Unfortunately, I missed the extra 25% off one last Saturday.
Thanks!
