    Hi All,

I'm purchasing an SL300 and selecting the 2MB RAM at 667MHz. Does anyone know whether a Celeron 667MHz will suffice - I typically have an Excel spreadsheet open while surfing the web on another screen, pretty basic computing. Or should I purchase a Core 2 Duo with FSB 800MHz?

    Thanks!

The Celeron might suffice. However the Core 2 Duo is a much better processes for reasons beyond the FSB. It has more L2 Cache, is faster clock for clock (better performance at same MHz), and should also be more power efficient.

If you can afford it, I would suggest the core 2 Duo.

The Core 2 Duo is a lot better. Only get the Celeron if you really cannot afford it.

Get the base Core 2 Duo.

The Celeron will obviously be slower in terms of performance, but will also lack features such as EIST. It will be extremely power inefficient and the only way it can be throttled down is via FSB-downclocking.

Anyway, a Core 2 Duo will be faster, and more efficient than the Celeron.

Zaz asked what the additional cost is for the Duo - $50. I'm guessing that Zaz will have the same response as the "others." I don't mind spending the extra $ if I getter even a little better performance. I'm just trying to be a little more careful not buying unnecessary components. Well, it's unanimous for the Core 2 Duo T5870. I just ordered the Lenovo SL 300 with the Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 and the total system cost was $708 including taxes.

As a first time member of Notebook Review, I would like to say thanks to everyone who have responded. Hopefully, I will be able to contribute - given my limited pc knowledge - sometime in the future.

    Thanks again!

    Martin

For $50 I'd have to agree. On the performance end it depends on what you're doing, but the bigger issue for me would be the speedstep, which the Celeron lacks.

Spot on Zaz, that's why I hate so much those Celeron, they suck alot of battery power, you're better of using a C2D.
