I was wondering if you can use the Intel 310 series SSD in the T400.
I know Lenovo has a whitelist.
Has any one tried it or is it impossible?
    thanks

I don't think disks are on the list.

I bet the answer will always be no unless you use a T400 primary drive bay adaptor.

Runcore have an US$20 adapter, shown below, so can use it in your T400's 2.5" drive bay until you upgrade to a T420 which I believe will use msata SSDs.

I can tell you that an Intel 310 SSD will NOT work in a T410 or W510. It would stand to reason that they will not work in a T400 either.

I ordered the 310 as soon as I saw it on Newegg to use as my boot drive in my W510. The BIOS doesn't see it. It also doesn't appear in Windows Device Manager or Disk Management.

it wouldn't matter.   current thinkpads aren't built to accept mPCIe storage devices.

    Well no wonder. LOL

Get a 1.8 to 2.5 adapter and it should work just fine.

Yeah, I was hoping it would work in the PCIe slot, but I'm not surprised that it didn't.

Imagine the possibilities of running mSata SSD and dual HDD, so much storage space crammed into T/W series ;)!

Where would one find a 1.8" or a 2.5" adapter, I have been looking feverishly and have only found 2 over priced solutions I am sure will work with the 310 mSATA standard. The first cheaper solution is the MP2S (mPCIe SSD to PATA / SATA adapter ver1.0b) Which shows high compatibility with a bunch of mini card style ssd. The Samsung card which has the same interface of mSATA as the Intel card works with this device. I am tempted to buy it, but the $18 shipping is holding me back. The other device That I believe will work is the SSDMB USB 3.0 adapter for mSATA.

The runcore adapter will work as it was meant for the mini cards that went into the asus eee and the pin outs for them are entirely different. I found this while doing my searches:
