    Installing xp on a brand new Hard drive?

    How do you install the xp on a brand new drive? Do is just install the hard drive, then turn on the computer, and now upload xp using my install disc? sorry if this is a dumb question lol

    As long as you have a full XP CD - not an upgrade - then you should have no problems installing it on a brand new hdd. Well, one caveat, I assume you are talking about an IDE hdd on a system thats a year or so old. XP does not contain SATA drivers so you could have an issue with a SATA hdd - best thing to do (eg - on a dv2000t) is to go into BIOS and disable native SATA. Then XP should install just fine.     Great tip man, mad rep points for you :) lol I have the full xp cd so hopefully i won't run into any problems

    does it have to be an OEM cd?

    Can we enter in the serial under our laptops for the XP OEM cd that I buy from a friend?
