So I just bought my Lenovo T400!

And I got the OCZ Vertex 30GB SSD!

But my Lenovo T400 has no install CDs ...
So I can't just put in my SSD hard drive and do a fresh install of Vista!

Any suggestions on installing my SSD drive?

Should I do a copy to an external then move it all onto my SSD? How do I make sure to get all the copies? I could install my old XP, but I'm worried about everything working...

    Thanks!

Lenovo doesnt ship any restore CD/DVD with their systems anymore. They expect the customer to burn them themselves and provide for the software to do so. Look under the thinkvantage folder in Start->All Programs menu and there should be a link to an utility to burn the restore CD/DVD.

my backup will take up everything?

I won't have to do updates again, and install files and programs?

That depends on the kind of backup you did. You haven't told us enough yet.

The restore DVD's will put the system back to factory state, so it wont include any programs, files or patches you installed. You will have to download and reinstall those. So make a backup of your personal data before proceeding with the HDD switch.

ofcourse if you did any other backup or used any other program to make a image of your current HDD then it might be possible to transfer data to your SSD and not have to update the software.

I have a confession to make.
1.) It's fully do able under Vista because I've done it.
2.) I don't remember the utility name. That's a symptom of the tbi I got from the accident-I'm in the hosptal. It's the backup utility. Watch the sizes of the disks.

If you have a portable HDD, then install Acronis Home, make a backup to that portable HDD, and then restore it on your new HDD. This will take care of the drivers and programs.
