Just wanted to be redirected to the thread that details the driver sequence (#1 Bios, #2 Chipset, #3 etc etc) to installing XP on that laptop.

Also, I'll put 4 questions in here so that this thread would mean something...

    1. Is it still necessary to download the UAA driver prior to installing Audio and modem drivers (also, where can I get the latest driver link for SP2)?

    2. I can't seem to find the USB camera driver for XP in the lenovo download site. Any place I could get it?

    3. Supposing I dilligently back-up my drives, would it be perfectly fine to delete the service partition?

    4. What's the latest non-beta/non-modified driver version/date of the Intel X3100?

This is the sequence you should follow:

***Don't forget to go into the BIOS and change the SATA mode to Compatibility before booting the machine with the XP CD, after XP and SATA driver installed, you can change it back to ACHI mode.***

    1. Chipset
    2. SATA -> Download this SATA driver for TP, yes it's the same controller, then follow this instruction, very important.
    3. Graphic
    4. Sound -> You do not need the UAA driver.
    5. Modem
    6. LAN
    7. Touch Pad
    8. WiFi
    9. Card Reader
    10. EnergyCut
    11. Easy Button
    12. Bluetooth -> Enable the Bluetooth device before you install the driver. (by pressing [Fn] + [F6])

All the drivers for Y410, except the SATA(see above):

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68104

For XP, you don't need to install a special webcam driver, it's already integrated in the XP disc. I've the Y310a(13.3) with Nvidia GPU, everything else is pretty much the same as the Y410, and I've dual-boot Vista/XP on it.

    :)

    1. What happens if I retain the "Compatibility mode" and just bypass step 2?

    2. How come other audio drivers for ASUS and HP require an install of a UAA driver prior to installation?

    3. No ACPI driver needed?

Thanks for the tips, by the way!

    1. Then your HDD won't be running in SATA mode, which will take a big hit on performance. Trust me, that driver I told you to download is the same thing as if you download from Intel directly, both T61 and the Y410 have the same ICH8M controller. The only reason why I told you to download that Lenovo package is because it comes with a file called install.cmd which will install the driver when you're still in Compatibility mode. If you download the package from Intel, it will not have that install.cmd file and you won't be able to install it with the Intel installer in Compatibility mode. For the record, they did mention this for the Y series on Lenovo's site, there is an XP installation note posted, but for some reason they didn't teach people how to install the SATA driver.

    2. *EDITED* I was right about the UAA update is already included in the driver package from the Y410 download. Open the readme.txt file and you will see it's written " 3. Pack with Microsoft High Definition Audio UAAV1.0a(5013)".

    3. When you install EneryCut, it will install the "Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller".

    EDIT: Please check PM. ;)

    Hello Stewie,

Seems like ure the guru on this topic, so I'll ask u directly...I'm having issues getting to the BIOS where I can change the SATA drive status....I get to the BIOS through F2, but I cant manage the HDD configuration....All i can do is play around with the boot sequence and a few other things...please help me out here cause it driving me nuts....

I did manage to install XP without doing it, but I can see that performance is sluggish when i use the internet, but otherwise the comp is running smoothly.....its weird, but the internet was fine with vista, but with xp its slow as a snail....

    help is GREATLY appreciated here..

    ps i have a lenovo Y410

    Thanks!!

    Hi

    Just got a LENOVO Y430/59018927.

Same problem, looking for SATA drivers for XP, without have to reinstall XP!

The drivers on the Lenovo website and your instruction links have expired.

    I found this driver pack.
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

Can you please advise on how to install.

    Thanks
