I'm just posting this as a courtesy for everyone else. I have an R500, type 2718. I purchased it refurbished from lenovo, and when i recieved it, the screen was broken. I tried contacting customer support with no response whatsoever. After being thuroughly frustrated by purchasing a supposively good product I decided to just plop down some money on a new LCD. Due to my work I have access to an assortment of LCD's, So i thought i'd try and see what will work. Mind you, the original LCD was 1280x800. I tried all sorts of higher resolutions and non worked, i got these lines accross the screen. Some research revealed that the cable is different on the higher res and lower res screen so i purchased a new LCD cable. So to make a short story short, after installing the new Cable and LCD, I now have a very nice 1900x1200 resolution LCD on my R500. no bios changes or software changes, windows automatically detected the new display. This will definately make my photo and video editing that much nicer, and when win7 comes out with improved DPI scaling, I'll be in heaven.
I hope this info helps anyone who is curious about an LCD upgrade, I can't promise it'll work for you, but it worked for me and i'm happy.

Congrats, by any chance could you supply us some pictures of the laptop when the display is on? I'm kind of curious to see what it looks like.

sure, here it is. I enhanced the brightness, my camera isn't very good.

The LCD is an LG LP154WU2, the Cable is the cable for the WXGA+ model R500. There is slight grainyness, but if i lower the resolution it's not noticable.

I think it's just more noticable at higher resolutions. i unfortunately have 2 stuck pixels but at the resolution, it's hardly noticable.

i didnt know resolutions could be expanded like this. thanks for good info setlah.
stuck pixels? it must be frustrating. you should do something about it before it becomes a "dead" pixel... 1 tip, dont press it with your nail or a pen, it can ruin your nice 1900x screen.
