Hey,
I dont have a set of the original Lenovo CDs, my order came with the OS installed on a HD and ive since bought a new one.
How do i install the software which, upon bootup, says to press the blue thinkvantage button and then once this is done, you can do lots of amazing things like backing up the drive etc?
This is assuming im not going to be paying lenovo for a set of new CDs....

Assuming you installed Windows 7 on your system, the easiest way to get all the Thinkvantage software back is to use Thinkvantage System Update 4.0 where it downloads all the latest drivers and software you need for the system such as the Thinkvantage Toolbox, Power Manager, Rescue & Recovery etc.

The blue button is only going to work with a factory install. You can put your old hard drive back and make the recovery discs to use on your SSD. While you're there you can grab a copy of the SWTools folder, which contains all the applications installed on your ThinkPad. As an alternative you can download the network drivers and system update. System update will download and install all the missing software, though the blue button will still not work as it's not a factory install.

OK, let me get this straight, rather than swapping your drives and burning off your discs, which will take a couple hours, you'd rather call up Lenovo and pay $45 for set of recovery discs, which will take a couple days to receive?

EDIT: I know how to get all the drivers done, as i had to do that for my SSD anyway, i just need to know how to make the recovery disks -
start > programs > thinkvantage > make recovery discs
-
does it have to be 7 separate CDs or could i use a couple of DVDs?
EDIT: Looks like i eleted the OS on the old drive, im just doing a factory install now. Its really good having the partition on the drive (obviously). Is there anyway i can 'copy' this to a new SSD so i dont have to use the disks?
It must be do-able to copy the partition over using some sort of software whilst being in Windows 7? -
Could have cloned the old drive to the SSD then ran the factory restore on the SSD.
I find it best to clone/image the hard drive prior to burning restore media, this way you can burn yourself a set of disks now, and when the time comes to sell, the new owner can burn themselves a copy
also proves as a safe guard from damaged media
It is the first thing i do with all new laptops and computers.
You can always restore to factory fresh...
edit:
hirens boot disk works great, you can even apply it onto usb thumb drive and image to a second external hard drive via usb.
This is one nice thing with the thinkpads whereas HP elitebooks don't support multiple USB drives under the boot menu -
ive just made recovery disks, but ive actually put it all onto an 8GB USB stick, ive got 2 questions.
1) I thought Windows 7 installation was larger than 8GB alone?
2) How do i now run the recovery from that USB stick? Do i have to change the boot sequence, or simply press the blue button during startup and it will let me select a destination drive to read the recovery 'disks'?
Installed Win7 on new SSD, how do i install POST software?
