 You're using a 32-bit operating system.
-

You'll need to install the 64 bit version of XP, Vista or Windows 7.

 Linux works too.

Newbie, please read the archives. This comes up ad nauseam.

The 32-bit architecture is capable of utilizing 4 GB total. This includes all of the system resources, not just the RAM. That's one reason why some computers will show 3 GB or 3.2 GB or sometimes 3.5 GB. It just depends on what resources the individual computer needs. (Correct me if I'm mistaken ) )

I believe the total throughput is 4096 MB (4 GB).
Installed 4GB RAM but XP Recognises as 3GB
