    So I've had a minor problem since I got my T60 in that some software simply won't install at all, or at best I need to be logged in as the Administrator to install/run it (or at least run the software with the admin credentials).

    The error I get (Internal Error 2909 or 2908 I think) apparently can be addressed by reinstalling .net, but I've done that to all three (1.1, 2, 3) to no avail. So far it's just meant that I can't use Evolution as my e-mail client, and that Solidworks is really touch-and-go (ironically it's not Solidworks itself that doesn't install correctly, just the stupid .dwg viewer that is bundled with SW).

    Seperate from that, I've had repeated issues with the Lenovo Software Update Utility where it simply fails to install updates. It will d/l packages, I will tell it to install them and then it simply say "n packages did not install" and I can do that as many times as I'd like, but to no avail. Yes, I'm running version 3, and I believe I've already tried uninstalling/reinstalling once. But I'll do it again as soon as I'm done posting here.

    When I get home from school in a couple weeks, if this issue hasn't been resolved I'll try restoring it from the partition, but I somehow think that since I've had this issue basically from day 1 that a simple restore from the recovery partition won't correct it.

    All suggestions are welcome!

    [UPDATE:] Yea, an uninstall-reboot-reinstall of System Update 3 did nothing to alter the behavior. It downloads the packages I tell it, it runs through as though it's installing them and then it simply states "_ packages did not install". They're listed as "Installation Failed" on the install history, but no more info seems to be available.
    I'm running Windows Firewall and AVG Anti-Virus.
    Even disabling both of those had no effect.

    Your running Vista? What did support have to say?

    Perhaps calling support would help. That's what they are there for. I have never experienced this issue though I'm not much of an updater.

    Dont forget to run windows update. Mostly winxp preloaded in Thinkpad are outdated and once you run windows update for the first time there will be a huge files to download, install and restart.

    @copeleto

    I too have uninstalled Symantec, but installed AVG antivirus instead (having had issues with Symantec products in the past).

    Just now I tried to run THinkpad System Update and it said something about editing a .net configuration to allow registry access, so I'm suspecting that Symantec partially locked my registry (those Jerks) and I've yet to figure out how to undo that.

    A restore from the recovery partition (basically a clean install) yielded the update software failing in a very similar manner. Just not working after a bit, once a 'patchpkg' appears listed on the 'critical updates' tab. Once that comes up none of the updates will install.

    So...does noone else have this error? It seems really weird that I don't see many posts about it.
