Just wanted to give them a call on questions on possibly ordering a laptop from them once again, and its been 10 minutes of hearing the same crappy xmas music, and no phone rep to pickup.

No other computer company I have dealt with has this type of weight for customers trying to BUY something. I can understand tech support or something... but ****. This is insane.

Notebook in question is "2529EFU" that version of the Z60m. Google searching brings up nothing, IBM search only brings up the page to buy the laptop, and it isn't even listed in the pdf sales manual listed on this forum. I want to know exactly which screen is inside this laptop, and I can't seem to find this out.

EDIT: 15 minutes, still on hold. same bad music :(

EDIT: 20 minutes, shoot the frosted snowman, IBM can shove it

There's an old saying that you know you've found the right computer company when there is a wait to buy, but the tech support queue is empty.

I'm sorry regarding your frustrations. Clearly, Lenovo needs to add some more sales staff.

Tried the tech number too. Was put on hold. I just want to know the ****ed specs on the screen and noone wants to let me know.

A computer company isn't worth jack if you can't buy anything or get anything repaired. Also isn't much good if you can't even get things shipped to you in a timely manner (month+ weight on my z60m before canceling).

The quality of the products might not have dropped much since the lenovo buy, but the customer service has turned to crap. I remember getting through to the sales staff last year the day before christmas and being on hold for maybe 45 seconds as it beeped through the computer system. Now it is just insane.

My school was going to order an R50e 1842-SRU, and two weeks of trying to call the Lenohno rep back resulted in what? The purchase of an Inspiron 2200 instead. :(

a friend of mine just ordered an X41 Tablet via the web and then 2 weeks later found out the order was cancelled -- she never got an email or anything, just went in to check the status after a while and saw it had been cancelled. so she had to call to figure out why it was cancelled, she did get through right away (no wait), but they couldn't find her order record and insisted the number she was giving them was for another customer not her. Turns out the rep flipped two letters on the order number she gave them, so after 15 minutes of back and forth they finally replaced the order and it is indicated as having been shipped now (took a week) but still in transit. She wasn't very pleased with the rep, said the guy sounded like a somewhat stoned Snoop Dog style character and wasn't all that courteous.

It's just luck of the draw in terms of the service you get sometimes, i imagine the call center is busy this time of year just due to the shopping season. Still, Lenovo has got to figure out the obvious issues they have with fulfilling orders, I've lost track of how many angry posts I've seen here regarding this. I sent an email to the PR people we know there asking if there were known issues with inventory of certain notebooks, but they knew of none.

    sigh.

Wow, this REALLY sucks. 30 minutes on the phone tonight so far, and no pickup. Oh god I hate this music I want to die. Shoot me now. Got it on speaker phone and going to see how long before I just get booted.

Wow, somewhat success. Took the government contract buying phone number to get someone on the phone to help me, and got a rep on the phone in about 2 minutes.

Asked on that certain model and it IS the lower resolution screen, but there are some other odd differences in the database compared to its specs.

Also looks like the ship date for most of the higher end models are 10-15 business days if I were to order today. I heard him mentioning something about 69 commited 42 in stock for the highest version of the z60m (128 meg video, 1600x10150 screen), so it sounds like those are shipping out already. Maybe they might actually start shipping products to customers one of these days after all :p

well cool, glad some of the persistency paid off!

fyi, i noticed on the z60m order page they have a callout now:

"Due to the great popularity of the ThinkPad Z60 notebooks, some customers have experienced slight delays. If your shipment takes longer than the estimated 2 - 4 weeks, we will contact you promptly and provide an updated ship date." ( http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/s...oryId=4611686018425011252&dualCurrId=1000073&)

huh, slight delays is an understatement, and glad the shortage is due to "popularity" and not lenovo screwing up with undersupply ;)

The model you're looking at is 1200x800. I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but here's a comparable model for less:
    http://www-131.ibm.com/content/home/store_LNV_PublicUSA/en_US/ad.html

You have to go to the very bottom-right of the advertised columns (beneath the add-to-cart button). In print only (no image, there is an option for a pretty good deal. Larger hard drive and faster processor than the EFU, but 64 MB video card. I think I'm getting this one myself.

I don't know if either has a MaxBright screen, but I imagine setting the brightness at ... um ... MaxBrightness will go through battery power like nothing.

    Best,
    Howie

That is the model I first bought about a month ago and then canceled after getting the run around on expected ship dates and finding out they were backordered to hell and back.

I was able to get that for 1385 shipped w/tax and 3 year warranty. But that deal is over now. :(

Wow. That really is a great deal. I'm guessing, however, that it will not be particular models that are backordered, but all models because of some common component(s).
