If you are in Europe it seems there are now services which give you an official US address ... then from there they forward your purchases to Europe ... am thinking of it since I have no clue when the X100e will be sold here and I am assuming the price will be double or more as per usual. In some countries you only need to pay the VAT which still makes buying in the USA the far cheaper option. Of course returns would be a problem ... Has anyone had experience with MyUS and other services ?

Sure, there have been many such services operating for quite some time... among others MyUS or Shipito. I bought my T400 from Lenovo US site a year ago and had it sent to Europe using this kind of mail forwarding service. Everything went without a hitch and I got the laptop in about 3 weeks.

A few things to bear in mind:
    • most models sold in Lenovo's online shop DO NOT carry international warranty
    • tarriff rate on laptops is 0%, but you have to pay VAT on import
    • you have to investigate current payment options if you considered buying directly from Lenovo (I had used PayPal, which has been unfortunately discarded by now); all I know is that credit cards issued outside US are not accepted
Try to look for preconfigured TopSeller models offered by various resellers in the US. These usually carry international warranty.

Dawn thank you for the info. Any opinion between MyUS and Shipito? Yes it seems that in my country I only need to pay the 21% VAT. Considering the fact that here Thinkpads come at about double the USA price that is well worth it. I would only buy a cheaper machine like the X100e or a cheaper TopSeller model so even if something goes awry I don't get burned too badly ! Any idea if there are already resellers of the X100e at this early stage ? And how long does the set-up of these MyUS etc services take ?

I'm afraid I can't help you on this. I had used a different agent, namely Zasilkova sluzba, but their website is in Czech only. It's usually pretty straightforward - you set up an account (and thereby mailbox) with the service you choose, deposit money with them to cover fees and postage and that's about it. My only advice would be: try to look for a company based outside California, as you'll be forced to pay California tax on your purchases otherwise.

I live in Europe too and there is no way you can make me buy laptop for the prices they ask here, but thats another topic :). Ive investigated possibilities of ordering through mail forwarding services and must say that in my opinion its less of a hassle and cheaper to order from ebay sellers who ship worldwide or to find some good deal from some US online retailer that offers international shipping. My 2 cents, but i do think that fees are rather high if youre on a budget when ordering through MyUs and the likes.

From my own experience, I know that MyUS is one of the biggest forwarding companies, but they are also very pricy. I have used Shipito and not only are they very quick and efficient, but their prices are low because of the fact that they use USPS as one of their main carriers.

Thanks for the Shipito info, I will check it out.... seems the Lenovo X100e I want to buy has a 4 week shipping delay ... OMG ! They must have had some stock LOL? Also in the market for a T400. A normal one here costs more than US 1,300 ! So I think I will save myself a few dollars ! I wonder how I would go about returning a machine if not happy with it ?
