    Hello everyone,
Fyi, you may want to avoid WD My Book Essential USB3.0 series hard drives.
I bought a WD My Book Essential USB3.0 external hard drive (2TB), and literally it only worked with my X220 USB3.0 port once. Now it merely functions like any normal USB2.0 drives, but cannot be recognized when plugged into the blue port (the drive is spinning but nothing happens in Windows). I do not have another USB3.0 device to test, but the laptop side should be okay since it does recognize USB2.0 devices and renesas devices are shown in device manager. The latest firmware for the drive was installed, as well as the latest driver for Renesas controller; and I even did a clean installation of Win 7. Also, USB3.0 power management function was disabled. None of them helps, though.
No solutions have been provided by WD till now.
I may buy another brand that is compatible with x220. What brands are you using? Are they working well with x220?

    Cheers,

I'm using an unbranded USB 3.0 enclosure that I found on ebay. So far no issues except the USB 3.0 cable is so big that it's inconvenient for travel.
