I already ordered my ibm thinkpad t60 widescreen though it should take another month to arrive; i hvae recently read the review on this site about the asus a8jp ( http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3425&review=Asus+A8JP) and was quite impressed, especially considering the price is even lower than the t60 as well..

Do you guys think i should cancel my t60 order and instead get the asus? This computer seems to be better equipped than the t60 widescreen and does so in a smaller package and lower price...

Are asus's good quality? Comprable to thinkpads?

I doubt that your T60 ws will take 4 or so weeks to arrive. Mine took a few weeks and I love it. It all depends on what you are going to use your laptop for. For me the ability to have a 2nd hard drive, 4 gig ram limit, vt option in bios were a must, so I went Lenovo over ASUS.

They're really very different. The Asus is going to feel cheap compared to the thinkpad every time you touch it, but it will game 5X better and will save you at least a few hundred dollars with comparable specs.

I suspect the strudy construction and feel is one of the main reasons people end up ordering Thinkpads. If you want the best bang for the buck or high end gaming performance, then you should have been looking elsewhere to begin with.

so you're saying that ibm can't game realy well :S.

i want to be able to play the upcoming and current games as well, such as command and conquer 3 and red alert 2 >><< and counter strike!

so perhaps an asus would have been better?

I would argue that the thinkpad wouldnt have problems playing the current games you've listed.

Games more on the lines of FEAR, Oblivion and so on may be a different story.

thinkpad all the way. I have a t42 from work, and am looking to buy an asus a8jp for myself just to save coin. The build qaulity of the thinkpads, coupled with the active hdd protection, TPM and insane battery life makes it quite the champion.

What drives me to choose one from the other is build quality, not appearance. But actually, I got swayed away by G1's flashy looks over the A8Js plain appearance, and I ended up paying $200 more to get the G1.

Thinkpads aren't as ugly as you think they are. I find them as the MOST ATTRACTIVE notebooks in the world, and no, i'm not a bald man (in fact, i'm a high school student who thinks thinkpads rock!) The only turnoff from buying a thinkpad was the weaker graphic card, having to pay tax to ship to CA, more expensive price, and the lack of a crystal screen.

If you're a business user and you are not planning on intense gaming w/ FEAR, BF2142, the T60 is fine. The Z61p features a FireGL card equivalent to the X1600, but its not meant to play games. So like others have said earlier, it all depends what you wanna do: gaming or business.
