    Hi Everyone,

I currently own a 15- 2520m T420, tha tI am looking to upgrade to a Quad core unit in the near future. I understand the T420 will accept it, but o the tolerance side, as far as temperatures, how much more will that 10w power generate, and will it throttle to conserve the temperature range. If I apply a good thermal paste solutions will this help? Please give me some lights on this.

    Thanks!

    Regs,

The 2820 has a compute throttle - yes. Whether it is wholly linked thermally is indeed another question.

Does that mean it would work? I am really inclied to buy it to try it...... I guess if a 2720QM works, this one should....

CLEARLY....I would advise researching the answer to your questions before purchase.

Actually, I have gone and looked at this now and I think thermally, it's a go!!!

I believe I read in the T420 owner's thread that a 2720QM in a T420 at 100% load on Prime95 goes up to like 97C, which is about what it would go up to at 100% load in LinPack + Furmark on a W520 (i.e. it is quite a bit hotter). A W520 with the same load should be around 85C at most, and probably like 75 ~ 80C.

Out of curiousity, why go with the 2820 when you most likely won't see a difference from the 2720?
