I am trying to install Windows 10 Pro on my T450s that has Windows 8.1 Home on it. I have a product key for a retail copy of Windows 8 I have purchased.

My plan was to do a clean install using the Media Creation Tool and the key. I have successfully used Win 7 product keys to do clean installs of Windows 10 Pro.

But I'm not even up to the point of entering anything. When I try to boot the image created by Microsoft's own tool, I get the following error:

"Secure Boot: Image Failed to verify with ACCESS DENIED Press any key to continue."

So what to do? Turn off Secure Boot?

    Turn off secure boot.
Turn on Legacy support and CSM.

    After install switch them back.

Ok. This won't prevent me from starting up Win10 in the future with those options enabled?

You need to switch them just to be able to boot from the install media. Windows 10 works either way after that but keeping them in default settings prevents unauthorized access to your hard drive.

Legacy support and CSM and needed for old OS like windows 7 and older, I'm like 95% certain it's also needed to install OS in the first place.

Doesn't it strike as you as strange that Microsoft wouldn't appropriately sign the images it creates to install its latest OS? This isn't Linux I'm installing..

It just sounds so odd to me that I'm thinking something else is going on.

I'd rather be surprised if something ever worked at first try.

Like my fresh install of Win10 enterprise on this T450s today. Apparently it will boot only on legacy mode... as if I had nothing else to do tonight :)

Where did you get the Win10 pro image?

    Microsoft's own media creation tool.

I was referring to the .iso. Not a burning or creation tool.

No, the tool downloads the latest version of the OS for you. It's really nice. Have you tried it?

BTW turning off Secure Boot allowed me to boot up the USB. But I had to have UEFI boot as opposed to Legacy boot. Using the latter, Windows refused to use GPT partitions.

    That is to be expected.

Have a link to the tool you are using?

I was asking the original poster to confirm they were using the approved method, not because I didn't know. Many times people try unapproved tools or methods from that thing called the internet.

That's why I specified Microsoft's own tool, not some torrent site! :)

All that really matters is that you realized your mistake.
