Could you please tell me if your bezel has the cutout for the camera or is it blank? Parts page doesn't show separate parts for with/without camera, but I think on previous models it was blank if no camera.
-
No cutout for camera. Just the light in the center of the bezel.
Corrected in post below... -
Are you sure about it?
My x201 had no camera but there was a cutout for it in the bezel (and the wiring inside, to answer your other thread in one post, vineuro). The sticker was all-black so it had to be replaced with one with a transparent "window" (if you look for the webcam on ebay, you'll see the auctions that include the new sticker).
brian5, would you mind posting a picture to confirm? I looked on google images and I found the following: http://cdn.sulitstatic.com/images/2012/0406/142427358_1423418078e386fa28bc9618ef8ecb4d27588123a8d2ff407.jpg. It sure looks like a cutout to me. -
My friend has an X220 with no camera. There's a cutout, just as in the image mil2 linked above.
-
Well, I'll be da***d...
It is a cutout as shown in the picture above! I actually found that it was piece of protective plastic that I could peel off -- I thought it was just a glossy wedge, with no edges, for the light to work better. -
Where do you get a cutout cover with holes for the lens and led indicator then?
-
purchase a new LCD bezel from IBM and you'll get the cover and LED indicator strips (one with BT, one without). the camera cover is just a piece of plastic with an adhesive backing.
to set the record straight and eliminate all future guesswork and incorrect assumptions (yeah, right), all thinkpads with optional cameras have the cutout whether a camera is installed or not.
also, i don't have a camera on my X220 (and no i won't sell you my cover ). -
There is cutout with a black piece. It's really ugly. 4286-CTO

If I'm not mistaken, my question hasn't been answered. No camera seems to = blank cover. Camera = holes for lens and light. If you buy a bezel for which there is only one p/n, do they send two covers?
-
yes, both covers are included and all bezels have holes for the camera. your original question asked about the cutout versus being blank, which i interpreted as the existence of the trapezoid shape to accept the camera itself. apologies if i misunderstood.
one part number makes it easier for service techs to order one part and be able to replace an LCD bezel on any system config whether is has a camera or not or has bluetooth or not. it's also less expensive to warehouse one FRU versus multiple.
older systems included the covers/indicator strips in other FRUs. -
I can confirm that there is a hole available for the camera. It's just a piece of black paper sticked to the bezel to cover that hole.
-
If I buy 3x3 how will its look visually compared to a system with camera?
How can I know if the laptop have camera or if it's empty hole? -
-
Visually, you should be able to see the camera in the cutout if you have it.
-
And if I have 3x3 antenna what will I see visually?
It will look the same as 2x2 with out camera? -
Unclip the top of the bezel and look for yourself. Stick your finger nail between the screen and bezel and pull gently.
-
I don't have it yet.so if I unclip it i will see the camera
And if I don't have camera I will see only hole and
If I got 3x3 antena what will I see? -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
If you get the 3x3 option you cannot get the webcam, this applies for normal x220 and the tablet version.
-
They don't look any different. The 3x3 no camera option will justhave a black plastic cover over the area where the thinklight and camera module would be (the thinklight is still there btw).
Also, the 3x3 is only useful if you get the Intel 6300 wiifi card (other other aftermarket 3x3 card). The other cards will only use 1 or 2 antennae. -
And if I remove the black plastic cover I will see the antena?
If you have an X220 without camera..
