I'm planning to buy new T61p.
If my new one has DEAD PIXELS, then can I request refund?
Also I wonder is there some way to check DEAD PIXELS before order.
I dont want T61p which has DEAD PIXELS with 1700$more money!

You can request refund, but they will add the 15% restocking fee. Get thinkpad protection with it.

    You mean Protection service?
If I choose Protection service, then Lenovo will guarantee DEAD PIXELS?

There is no way to check for dead pixels until you actually have the notebook in front of you and turn it on. Most notebook manufacturers, including Lenovo, have policies regarding dead pixels.

    Thank you Jabba.
Anyway the policies sucks. they have no responsibility of under 4 dead pixels

Well if you want a no questions asked return policy, buy it at Costco though that will limit your selection and you will pay more. A Vostro is another possibility. A dead pixel isn't all that bad. I have one on my desktop LCD. 99.9% of the time I forget it's there.

These dead pixel policies are stupid. You pay $1700 for a new laptop, you should be able to expect it to be free of defects. One dead pixel is considered a defect. I understand having the 4 dead pixel policy for when you'd had the laptop for a while and they start to develop; but when you buy a brand new machine, it should not have 1 dead pixel.

It's part of the technology used...

The price you pay doesn't matter
A 3000$ notebook LCD can have dead pixels

If you request a refund you will need to pay a 15% restocking fee depending on how many dead pixels you might be able to exchange it

You understand that on many laptops, ESPECIALLY the T61P with the rather large resolution four dead pixels will normally go completely un-noticed?

Unless you put up backgrounds specifically looking for them or they are clustered together in the middle of your screen you won't notice. (If they are clustered together in the middle of the screen, I have no doubt you could get it repaired or a refund)

It is ludicrous to expect to recieve 0 dead pixels, unless you specifically pay extra for a no dead pixel policy. (Which will normally run you an extra $200 USD, sometimes more)

The fact is LCD's aren't a perfect technology, four dead pixels that are on totally different portions of the screen are nothing. You will NOT notice them while gaming, I utilized a LCD with a native reso of only 1440x900 and I never even notice it. (It has six dead pixels)

I got a 14" 1440x900 T61 and it had one single dead pixel in the middle and it was VERY noticeable. Fortunately I was able to return it because of an audio problem. Anyways if it becomes too annoying I would try to carefully "break" more pixels to meet the dead pixel policy. LOL

Here's the thing about manufacturing LCDs, it's not an exact science and some screens are going have some dead/stuck pixels. If they had to throw out all the screens that had dead/stuck pixels it would be a large portion of the screens manfactured. It would also significantly raise the cost of your $1700 notebook as the screen is one of the most expensive parts of a notebook. It's all a state of mind. If you let it bother you, it will.

Right. It's noticeable if you look specifically at the dead pixels...
