If I remove the graphics card on my IdeaPad Y510 will it run off some integrated graphics?

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510. It has a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT. If I remove that card will I still be able to use the laptop?

No, if the card is removable then you won't be able to use the laptop. More than likely it is soldered onto the motherboard though.

The card is not soldered on. So there are no backup integrated graphics on this system?

Unless it's Centrino 2 and has the switchable graphics enabled (which I don't think the Ideapad range has) then no. Why would you want to do this anyway?

I'm going on vaction soon. I wanted to know because the 8600m gt consumes too much power. If this had some integrated graphics then Id beable to last the whole flight with movies and such.

I think you're overestimating the time difference.. certainly not worth dismantling your laptop to save less than an hour of battery life considering you could end up damaging something trying to remove the card.

Besides, I don't think the laptop would run without the discrete card in place. You'd be better off keeping the screen dim and wireless off than attempting this.

Why don't you buy another battery? That's probably going to be the cheapest option in the long run (i.e. voiding warranty, paying for reapairing a broken laptop etc.)
