FYI, I tried to run the Crucial SSD firmware update and got a Windows loading error when it reset to do the update. Going into the BIOS settings and then exiting allowed Windows to load with no issues, but it appears the current update doesn't work with UEFI machines like the Yoga. From the release notes, it looks like Crucial plans to fix this in a future updater, so I'd suggest holding off for now.
-
Here's a video on how to upgrade the SSD. not a full guide, but looks handy nonetheless.
To those that have already upgraded the SSD. What are your thoughts on how he doesn't disconnect other ribbons besides the keyboard connection? seems like a good shortcut. Thoughts?
Lenovo Yoga 13 SSD Upgrade Via Second SSD Install - YouTube -
I really like the Yoga 13 (except fan noise) but keep swearing at Windows 8. Is it possible to downgrade using the same license and are there drivers available for Windows 7?
Sent from my HTC One S -
I would also like this as I do a LOT of typing and drawing late at night. I'm not typing trained as my one hand is slightly injured from a WC accident in May, But I do henpeck fairly fast. So a light up keyboard would be key for me, but isn't quite the deal breaker for me.

@Gnopps
You do realize that when you do that you are losing a lot of the features of Windows on a touch machine since Windows 7 is NOT a touch optimized OS. I personally love windows 8 and am about to upgrade but my personal recommendation would be to make a separate partition on your SSD if you really cannot bear windows 8. If you do this, there will however be a space constraint (if you ordered the 128GB SSD you would have about 60-70GB of free space with both Windows 7 & 8).
Just keep in mind though, that the moment you downgrade to 7 you are not going to see all the touch optimized benefits of windows. However, your touchscreen will still work.
In my humble opinion, it makes no sense to buy a device designed specifically for windows 8 (i.e Yoga) only to downgrade. I am sure that you will grow to accept and love the new OS as time goes on by and you get more familiar.
Good luck. -
@Kimonoskunk
why don't you look elsewhere? For example the Dell XPS 12 and the Vaio duo 11 are both capable machines (both also offer much better performance than the Yoga 13 although they cost a bit more). -
If you don't like Win 8, just grab Start8 from Stardock. $4.99 and you can live on the desktop and never see the Start screen. Do not downgrade to Win 7; you're bound to have driver issues and the touch support stinks.
-
Good call dennya, I forgot to mention Stardock's solution.

Any recommendations for an HDMI --> VGA adapter to connect the Yoga 13 to a VGA projector?
I was looking at these two from Amazon as options:
Amazon.com: Cable Matters Gold Plated Premium HDMI to VGA
Amazon.com: StarTech.com HD2VGAE HDMI to VGA Adapter
Thanks! -
I would go with the starTech one.
-
Thanks for your replies. I know about the custom tweaks to make Win8 more like Win7, but I still get so frustrated at the interface. To me, the ideal option would be Windows desktop when in Laptop mode and the when pressing the Windows-button Android would be launched for tablet-navigation.

HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter | HP® Official Store
I did some testing this morning with this adapter and other types of connection on three different monitors (all with Lenovo Yoga 13 HDMI out):
Acer H233H Monitor (Adapter works fine)
1) HDMI to HDMI, works fine.
2) HDMI to DVI (cable w/ HDMI on one end and DVI on the other), works fine.
3) HDMI Adapter to VGA cable, works fine. This is using the adapter on the above link.
Dell 2407WEP Monitor (Adapter works fine)
1) HDMI to HDMI, works fine.
2) HDMI to DVI (cable w/ HDMI on one end and DVI on the other), works fine.
3) HDMI Adapter to VGA cable, works fine. This is using the adapter on the above link.
HP 2009M Monitor (Adapter does not work with this monitor?????)
1) HDMI to DVI (cable w/ HDMI on one end and DVI on the other), works fine.
2) HDMI Adapter to VGA cable, adapter does not work with this monitor???? This is using the adapter on the above link.
In a few days I will test VGA on a LCD projector. Actually, I prefer to use and LCD projector that has an HDMI in.
If I expected I would always need to use VGA I would purchase the more expensive Lenovo USB 3 to VGA / HDMI adapter (I would feel more comfortable that it would work as needed):

I'll await your projector test results! -
Are there any stores that sell the Orange version in the US? I've only seen the Silver version at BestBuy.
-
If you google IdeaPad Yoga orange, the only pace you can buy it is directly from Lenovo.

I ended up returning mine. The Power button stopped working, but the OKR button worked. Strange.

Anyone tried this? Instead of the SSD use the 1.8 HDD -

Thanks for the question, which I know I haven't answered but it has caused me to learn and that's what I love about these forums.
My Lenovo Yoga 13 came with one of the small 256GB mSATA SSD (Samsung) and I installed a second small 256GB mSATA SSD (Crucial) for a total of 512GB SSD.
See attachments (note on the first attachment, "Disk 0" is the Samsung mSATA SSD with UEFI partitions and "Disk 1" is the Crucial mSATA SSD I added with just one primary partition for storage):
The next two attachments are to show performance data (AS SSD Benchmark for the Samsung C:/ drive and Crucial E:/ drive):
Gosh, this little computer is amazing and lots of fun. -
I guess I am leaning towards 8GB RAM 256 GB SSD package from Yoga and add another 256GB SSD from Crucial after market. or Could save a bit and go with 4GB RAM and get the 8GB Module from Crucial.I assume there only 1 DIMM slot and not two. So can't use 2x8GB bar huh?
Would bbe nice as part of CES 2013 revision, they add backlit keyboard -
-
Bummer I wonder if there is or will be 16 bar
-
Wish they would use AMD chips with the 8000s IGPU. This would have been perfect.
-
Haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, so I figured this thread was as good as any
It looks like the Yoga 11 is also getting a Pro version at the same price as RT. Nice size, but don't know how I feel about 1366 x 768.

I recently ordered a Yoga 13 (core i7, 8GB RAM, 128GB drive in Clementine) on 12/26 which Lenovo gave an estimated arrival date of 1/4. Well that date has come and gone and they keep pushing out the estimated date (it's now 1/14). I don't have confidence in that estimate either now that they have "updating" the ETA every time the "ship date" comes and goes. It's clear they just have a piece of automation that simply extends the ETA by a few days whenever the actual date ship comes and goes.
Should I and can I cancel my order at this point? I am starting to get highly frustrated here....is this typical of Lenovo order times? -
an 11" yoga "pro" would ber very tempting.
-
For 11" device, the resolution is fine. Too small for me. TOo large to be a tablet, to small to be a notebook. 13-14" is the perfect sweet spot.
-
probably too many people ordered this during the holidays. During the non-holidays my last two orders took about 2 weeks to ship.
I would call lenovo to complain. -
-
Went out to BB to relook at this. Plastic material, but seems to be well made. BB unfortunately doesn't have other color options.
What attracts me to Yoga is the upgrade ability of it. Extra SSD slot. Ram is DIMM and can be easily replace. The screen not as good as the Asus UX31A Touch I saw at BB to. I was blown away with that. Only if Asus had 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD option, I would've just pick it up there...
I wonder how durable are the hinges on the Yoga. Touch bad not as good as other. It is light, not too heavy. -
-
the 11" yoga with win 8 pro is much better than the one with RT.
-
I recently received my new Yoga (orange) and it came with Windows 8. Have anyone been able to upgrade his/her Windows 8 OS to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99, because the W8 Upgrade Assistance is not allowing me to do so? Did anyone have the same experience?
-
I wonder if they will be releasing this in more colors like they do with the U310/U410 models.

IdeaPad / IdeaTab Slate Tablets - Lenovo Community
There is a fix. -
Man I was so excited about the Yoga, but it's dead to me now most likely. The Ideapad Helix seems better than the Yoga in almost every way. It can be a REAL tablet with 6 hours of battery, adds a world class keyboard with an extra 4 hour battery for 10 hours of i7 goodness. If you use the full laptop tablet mode the keyboard is not exposed so you dont need a special case. It seems like the price might be more expensive, and I pray it allows a second SSD so I can try to dual book OS X, hackintosh of course. The helix does have one more flaw, screen is slightly smaller but it is an exciting device.
-
Hi all Yoga owners... I'm considering picking up one of these at BB. Any comments after extended use? Would you buy it again? Thanks...
Sent from my Incredible 4G using Tapatalk 2 -
@setite The Helix is actually in the ThinkPad line, not the IdeaPad line.
@swenpro I returned mine after the power button failed. I actually liked mine a lot. I didn't like the fact it didn't have WiDi (Wireless Display) and the wireless card is Lenovo proprietary (so you can't fix that). There is no Ethernet port. It should have more than 1 USB 3.0 port. That being said, I think the Yoga should be priced at $899 for the Best Buy configuration. It probably will be in the next few weeks in one of the weekly fliers, but who knows? My 7 Best Buys in the Austin area had them all in stock on Sunday and received at least 2 each and are currently out of stock. -

See below link: Add features to Windows 8: Frequently asked questions
The upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro cost $39.95. The $14.95 promo is for computers purchased after June 2nd with Windows 7 and upgrades to Windows 8 basic.
For my needs this is the best little computer I have used. I am doing 3D CAD/Solids and creating STL files for rapid prototype. I am also editing 25 mega pixel RAW files in PS CS6 and editing video in Premiere Pro CS6 and saving out converted HD video files to be burned to DVD from Encore CS6 (no games on my computer). Yep, it's plenty fast and smooth (note my configuration in my signature). -
I have also attempted to upgrade to windows 8 pro. I saw the Microsoft link to upgrade for $39.95 but when I tried to upgrade it said the upgrade is not available in my country. I am in the USA and bought my Yoga 13 128G from best buy. Is the upgrade only available in Europe at this price?
-
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/buy
Remember, you don't need to do the large file download (you only need the key that you will receive in an email from Microsoft after paying $39.95). You will need to click on search in your Windows 8 and type in "Add Features To Windows 8". After you go through a couple screens, click on "Already have key" and insert you new key. -
I called the 877 number and explained I wanted to purchase the $39.95 upgrade from window to pro for my Yoga 13 and was told this is not available. He said the only way I can get the upgrade is by purchasing a physical DVD for $70. I explained that someone has done this on their yoga and I referenced this forum but he said this was not possible. I have a Yoga 13 i5 128G. do you have an i7 yoga and would that explain the difference?
Ideapad Yoga?
