I'm having problems with the screen on my Y730. When I open the lid, the screen will flicker/ distort until I've opened it to at least 85 degrees. Opening it further is fine, but when I get below 70 degrees it starts to flicker again. It will even go completely blank at times.

The distortion/ flicker looks like horizontal lines going across the screen. If you've seen the title scene for the series Falling Skies, it's like that (I tried to shoot a video of it but it's virtually impossible with the glare)

I pried off the bezel that sits between the main speaker bar and the screen, and it looks like the ribbon cable on the right could be the culprit. The plastic tape that covers it has started to peel loose a little, and there has to be an awful lot of friction being right next to the hinge pin. When I wiggle the cable manually, nothing happens though, so it's possible the loose connection/ pinching is happening inside the main case, not the screen assembly.

Removing the hinges will be easy enough, but I'm not sure how I can disconnect the three cables on the right hand side. Is there something I need to pry off the screen assembly to get access? I'd also like to get inside the speaker assembly, so I can inspect the ribbon cable there. There's not a lot of information available on the Lenovo site unfortunately, so any troubleshooting/ disassembly pointers would be appreciated.

Here is a picture of the area in question:

I haven't had chance to get personal with any Y series yet but those cables are either WLAN or WWAN cables.

Open the laptop from the bottom and disconnect cables from the wireless cards, then you should be able to pull them thru the laptop, allowing you to disconnect whole display from the computer base.

The problem itself is with 95% certainty the LCD cable gone bad, most probably it's the ribbon cable on that picture.

Thanks KLF. Looks like this is going to be extended laptop surgery. The good news is that I'll get out of mowing the lawn this weekend :)
