So I got a brand new Ideapad Y730. I did a clean install of Vista and everything seems to work fine except that whenever I boot up the laptop, the dvd drive makes a few loud grinding noises as if it is loading a disc. I tried setting the hard drive as the first boot device but the noise is still there. Is anyone else have this same issue, and it it possible to fix? It really isn't that big of a deal because it only happens on startup, and otherwise the dvd drive is fine, its just more of an annoyance.

I don't think the dvd drive makes that noise on startup, at least for me. But i do have to agree with you on the noise. The dvd drive is pretty loud.

My drive isn't actually that loud when I am playing a movie or accessing data on a disc. Its only loud on bootup or right after I load a cd/dvd. It's the bootup noise that bothers me, I dunno why it is even trying to read from the drive when no media is inserted.
