Hi everyone, I recently purchased a brand new Lenovo Ideapad y500. I've been reading about all the issues people have been having with the Elan brand touchpad and that people have been having much better luck with the Synaptics manufactured one.

Much to my disappointment however, it seems even the Synaptics one is not quite what I would call a normally functioning touchpad. Basically it seems way too sensitive, resulting in jerky behavior. I'll try my best to describe it.

Whenever I try clicking a button or a line of text in block, I would try to position my cursor, then click into it. Always inevitably, after my "click", my cursor would end up moving slightly above or below the intended spot. It's not drastic by any means, but it's pretty irritating and the frustration can easily build up if you had to do this constantly. Overall, the motion of the cursor does not seem in "tune" with the movement of your finger. it hovers a bit on its own as if your finger was subtly shaking.

I'm quite certain im not just making this up or being ocd. I've used my fair share of touchpads on many laptops before and have not seen a similar issue. I have already tried contacting Lenovo tech support, which they have tried reinstalling the synaptics drivers, updating to the latest ones, and playing around with the sensitivity settings in the Synaptics control panel, none of which really helped. It seems making the "Touch Sensitivity" setting further to the right over to "Heavy touch" helps things a bit, but then it has another side effect as it becomes pretty ridiculous to get the touchpad to react. You almost feel like you need to pound it to get it respond.

Can anyone else comment on if they have been experiencing similar issues with the Synaptics brand touchpad? Mine was manufactured on 2/15/2013, so its definitely the one which has the newer touchpad, not the supposedly defective one made by Elan. I can most likely get an RMA and get a replacement but I am wondering if others face the same issue.
