My girlfriend wants a laptop that can play games and program.
I've read a lot of great things about the 450M chip and I'm wondering if $750 would be an idea price for a gaming capable machine.
It will be taken with her pretty much everywhere in her backpack.
Not sure if this is a good price or there are better options for $750

it indeed it one of the better laptops that you can buy for that price range. There are others but this one is probably the best if you get a fixed model with no issues. the 650m is a powerful graphics card which can power many games @ 1080p at medium settings. as for the resolution in the y400 it should be able to play the latest games at full except crysis 3. the backpack part is a bit concerning since this laptop is quite heavy according to many people. some things to consider are the brilliant keyboard and the good screen and the fantastic speakers. the negatives being the touchpad, the battrey life and the weight, and the resolution
edit : my bad i thought i read the y400
no the y480 actually is a very good laptop with minimal flaws. you wont get the sepic speaker that you would on the y400 but the battrey life and some other elements are quite better off from teh y400.
the y480 has the gt 640m i belive which wont do medium to high on latest games.
