I just got my Ideapad Y470 today. Ive loved everything so far about it however when i went on Skype the camera was so dark. I tried playing with the settings on youcam but its still dark and not clear. I've noticed others:mad mentioning this issue but now that Ive seen this issue first hand its quite disappointing. I do a lot of skyping and this won't work for me. Is there anything you guys have done to fix this issue?
i would hate having to return this laptop because of the poor webcam. Ive seen netbooks with better quality then this!!!!!

mine works perfectly..got it a week ago and i just tested after you posted this question...i haven't changed anything..everything is default and i think yours might have a defect
-
I have the same problem... although I never use my webcam... so it's a minor defect for me...
-
thanks guys. I'm going to wait and see what others have to say and then i'll make my decision of returning it. I'm surprised of the quality of the camera. im going to reinstall the driver and see if it fixes the problem which i doubt but with a try.
for those of have a y470 can you please test out your webcam with default settings and let me know if its extreme dark. i have a light right above me and it still dark
here is a pic that i took to give an example. remember i have a light source right above me. this is on default with a small tweak in the settings or else it would be worse. let me know if you guys get the same quality

Aparently it doesn't like in house lighting... right now with only the sunlight entering my room, the web cam looks perfect...

Hey LUIS_GT, Have you changed the settings for the webcam in any way? like the contrast and brightness?
-
Only thing I changed was the Resolution... to see if anything changed... other than that... everything is at default
-
maybe there is something that i missed. i'll give it another try, if not that alienware MX11 will have to replace it
-
agreed, quality sucks. trying to play with settings right now to change it.
-
Kolumbia i was able to fix the quality of the camera. Within the program "YOUCAM" you need to go to the settings and change the resolution to the highest. On default its stuck at 640 X 300 or something like.. thats what did it for me. However you can;t use those lil features within that program when you raise the resolution

Hi all,
I recently got my laptop last week which i ordered a month back.
Im also having the same issue as rcorrea. I have the same laptop.
The webcam seems to be OK in daylight but at night times under the room light, its really dark, if u dont change the brightness and contrast you will only see the silhouette . i changed the resolution to hightest too but only the quality of image is improved but its still dark.
Have any of you solved this issue ? is this the prob with this series of laptop itself? I know its 1.3 MP cam but the same pixel cam is better in other laptops... -
Hey everyone.
The default settings of the camera was too dark for my Y570 also. But i found the solution to my problem. Open youcam. Go to enhance video image. It is the button with a picture of a film. Then go to advanced. Then change the gamma to a higher option(default is 50). As you go higher, the camera will brighten up. -
well I went to the advance option and unclicked speed and clicked quality...it drastically changed. Instead of seeing a shadowy figure I saw myself X)
btw i think i messed up the fan, the part that look like orange gills, a part of it is too slanted as if something forced it to move should i forcibly fix it by bending it X( -
agree w/ the fact that the internal camera sucks, u should have additional lightsource to make the camera works
-
Aren't all internal webcam's the same regardless of the megapixel on laptops, they all suck under low light conditions.
I think all laptops should have a least a 1.3MP webcam if it has already one however I don't think it's necessity and should not be on top priority when comparing between brands and models.
