So I have been thinking about getting either the y450 or the y550 and I was wondering what the main differences between the two are (besides the 1 inch screen difference)?

I was originally interested in the Y450 but I heard many problems with excessive heat on the hand rest and also some problems with touchpad sensitivity. Are these issues the same with the Y550 or specific to the Y450?

I would appreciate your input, especially from someone with experience with either of these. Thanks

Also, if anyone has any links to a review of the Y550 I would appreciate it. I have not found any.

The Y450 has a white keyboard/palm rest/touchpad, while the Y550 is a more muted gray and black design. Personally, I think the Y550 looks much better but it's totally a matter of opinion.

The Y550 also adds a subwoofer to the two Dolby speakers used in the Y450. On models with discrete graphics, the Y550 offers a more powerful gpu (GeForce GT 130M) than the Y450 (GeForce G 110M).

The Y550 is the the first IdeaPad that can be configured to order (CTO), much like ThinkPad models. You can select the processor, operating system, memory, hard drive, graphics card and other specs.

The Y550 is 6.06lbs (with 6-cell) and has the Realtek ALC272 audio codec.

The Y450 is 4.63lbs (with 6-cell) and has the Realtek ALC269 audio codec.

Similarities: number of ports, GM45 chipset, standard 4500MHD integrated graphics, 220 nit/500:1 contrast ratio/1366x768 WXGA TFT LED, the list goes on..
