I'll second that! Anything at all you want to share would be spectacular. Pics, writeup, impressions, etc.

Right now i have some issues with the switching of graphic card, other than that the laptop is pretty alright.

Ran some graphic intense applications, however the laptop wasn't really that hot. The battery life wise it would only last me 4 hours, of surfing net and watching videos etc.

    i got mine from singapore.

What are the specs and model of your U400?

In particular, which I5 or I7 variant does it use, and what is the HDD type and size?

The U400 with i7 processor is now listed on the Lenovo website for purchase. I purchased one. I did it via telephone and the rep said that it should ship within 10 days.

Lenovo.com have a new coupon for the U400 (BLACKFRIDAYEPE). The i5 model comes out at $839.20.

I tested a U400 but found that it got really bad wifi performance. 1bar with very low bandwidth, often disconnecting and spiking high pings, whereas my thinkpad did fine in the same environment (using neighbor's wifi, but it was good enough for the other computers I tested).

Can anybody confirm this? What similar laptops actually have good wifi antenna?

I haven't had a problem with the internet with this laptop.

I took it to campus and was able to use it with good connectivity in class, and on the bus to the parking lot.

@rainjacket and AshLikeSnow, what kind of battery life do you get on your U400?

Note, I have a 120Gb Corsair SSD. Instead of the standard hard drive.

I get about around 3-4+ hours. But I have my screen brightness near max. ITs hard to say, it really depends on what i use it for, and I never used it for 3-4 hours straight.

I can see the laptop lasting 7 hours with screen brightness on min and just web browsing + music.
All and all, I am very satisfied with the battery life.

    AskLikeSnow,

Did you have any trouble installing the 120 gb Corsair drive. I just recieved my U400 with the I7 processor. I have a 256 gb Crucial M4 SSD and it wouldn't fit. I had to modify the case of the Crucial drive so it would get past the usb 3 port thats near the HDD connector. I got in installed, and this thing is lighting fast.

Any hints or tips that I should be aware of. I've only had this for about 6 hours.

    Thanks,
    T.

No Pics, the mod was simple. I had to cut the corner of the plastic spacer that seperates the 2 metal pices of the case of the Crucial SSD. Then the metal top plate. Basically I removed one of the screw holes on the drive casing.

The review makes some valid points. Yes you could get similar specced machine at a few hundred dollars less but not the same build quality. At $800 I don't think you could find many i5 full aluminium build laptops. Also the hdd can be upgraded as some ppl in this forum have already done but it's by no means simple.

With the sharp edges, you can use it in case you get in an back alley knife fight. What were they thinking?

Which MacBook Pro is this supposed to compete against?
