As a first-time Ideapad owner (ive used Thinkpads in the past), i have a question about Lenovo Energy Management. This question does not apply to any model in particular.

I know for one thing that is it not good to leave a laptop constantly plugged in because it overcharges the battery.

So currently i have this habit of charging laptops and then pulling out the battery when its fully charged, when im using it on the power adapter,

But if i set my laptop to "optimal battery health mode" (which puts it to 60% and stops charging), can i do some work/gaming on it and leave the battery in the laptop and not fear degrading my battery?

    Thanks for the answers.

*Also my Dell 17 has software that does the same thing, so im wondering if this applies to the Dell too.

I think the best thing you can do is to take the battery off whenever the laptop is on.
It doesn't matter what mode, using the battery will degrade it slowly.
I always take it off whenever I'm on AC power, even outside home

Not true at all nowadays. LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries are the standard, and they have smart charging. They will never charge more than 100% and when it reaches a full charge, power will no longer be sent to the battery. The only thing that degraded LiPo batteries are its cycles of discharging and recharging back up to 100%. So yes you can leave the battery in your laptop at all times without it degrading; it only degrades form actual use cycles.

Ok, so what is best for my Y410p. Does it have a Li po or a Li ion battery, and is it okay to leave it plugged with a battery in?

I only know what I do.

I've had my Y470 for over 2 years. The Energy Management is set at Best Battery Health, 45-50% maintained charge. I always have my laptop plugged into the AC, and never ran it on the battery. The current wear level, as reported by HWiFO64, is 8.1%. Edit: I have never removed the battery.

So, if you primarily run your laptop with the AC adapter plugged in, set the battery at "optimize for best battery health", and forget about it. :D
