I've just love Lenovo and their politics of giving tons of information on their products. They offer now a new IdeaPad Y510 with something that they called "NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GTS 256MB". Well I admire Lenovo that they install NVIDIA cards that they (in basement I suppose) produce, because NVIDIA deny that selling 8600 gts for notebooks.

So what the hell? What is it?
    a) 8600M GT
    b) 8600M GS
    c) 8600M GT-SLI
    d) 8600M TGS -(Thats Good Shi*)

I think that the 256mb 8600GTs are all DDR3? The DDR2 versions should have 512mb but I could be wrong.

    So it should be DDR3

Just got an Ideapad Y510 - 77582FU direct from Lenovo, in a configuration described as including the "8600M GTS" with 256MB video RAM.

RivaTuner says it's an 8600M GT with 256MB DDR3 RAM. With AV disabled mine scored 4172 using 3dMark 06.

Regarding the display -- it's way to glossy to use outdoors at my local Starbucks. I debated returning it, but then decided to get a Viewguard matte screen protector for it (on order). Pretty happy with it except for the too-reflective glossy screen. Battery life will probably be ok, but not stellar. For such an inexpensive laptop, this seems a fair trade-off.

Incidentally, this sku also includes Bluetooth. It's not listed in the features, but it does show up when you add the laptop to the lenovo.com checkout cart.

Did your IdeaPad come with the 15.4 WXGA TFT AntiGlare?
How are the reflections when indoors?
I hate glossy screens.. I have already returned an HP laptop, because after half an hour of working the reflections gave me extreme headaches.. I could not stand it. My desk is right by the window, do you think IdeaPad would work? .. It was my last hope, since it says AntiGlare..
Any recommendations for PC's with matte screens.. seems like those are hard to find nowadays...

Not sure if your question was directed at me, but I really didn't like the glossy screen finish at all.

The 15.4" ViewGuard matte finish screen protector I purchased rectified the problem though -- now I don't have to RMA this unit, or try to pawn it off on someone who might otherwise be indifferent to the glare of the factory display.

I ended up ordering the protector (VG-31545) directly from buyviewguard.com. Given the incredible proliferation of glossy-screened notebooks, I was surprised to learn that nobody (BestBuy, Wal-Mart, Target, Office Depot, Staples) stocks these locally (though they all stock stick-on graphics for the sake of "customizing" the look of your laptop). Guess most folks are using these displays indoors, and as desktop replacements.

**Ok, I see what you mean about the WXGA antiglare -- it's listed as such on the lenovo.com product website, but I assure you that the display is not even remotely glare free in any sort of bright lighting. Yes, mine came with this display, and you will absolutely want a matte screen protector of some sort if you don't want to be forever looking at yourself in the mirror like finish ;)

So the "antiglare" screen on the Ideapad is still glossy? That's a bummer. I thought they discontinued the overly glossy screens.

Hope the new Montevina Ideapads have matte screens, or at least not too glossy ones.

Ditto. Just read the press release for the Y530 and Lenovo specifically states that both anti-glare and glossy are available. Now that I think about it, if I hadn't gotten the matte screen protector I might have fought Lenovo over the restock fee based on the bogus screen finish info (claiming it's anti-glare when it's clearly glossy) on the spec page. Well, no matter as I am pretty happy with it now.

The GeForce 9500M GS is a pretty good video card though. That would have been nice to have....

Well, based on the pictures at http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-ideapad-hands-on/ the new Centrino 2 Ideapads still have extremely glossy screens. I hope those screens in the pics were not the anti-glare screens.

Other than that, the Centrino 2 Ideapads look promising.

Any experiences / opnions .. I kind of like the laptop but the screen is a big issue.
