Updated: My remaining question: Will I have any licensing trouble while cloning Windows 8 from the HDD to the mSATA SSD?

Update 1: I changed the system I'm interested in to the Y480 2093C7U (Canadian version) with the GT 650M 2GB and the i7-3630QM. It already has Windows 8 as the default OS so I don't need to worry about that part anymore.

Update 2: Ok, I've now decided I'll just add a mSATA SSD to the mSATA port. (updated in update 3: I was trying to figure out if the mSATA port is SATA II or SATA 3.)

Update 3: Ok it's SATA III (6GB/s) according to this site.

I plan to clone the HDD to the SSD and boot from the SSD.

I'm undecided on which mSATA SSD to buy so am open to recommendations.
