I've been having this weird graphic problems with my laptop.

    - First of all when I bought the laptop, it didn't came with the installed VGA driver for the 7690m, it only showed intel graphics and I can't switch to dedicated graphics, so I downloaded and installed the driver from the lenovo website which is found here.

-After installing, I finally got the 7960m to work. I played with The Sims 3 for a while on max settings and it was flawless. After some time of using the laptop and when I tried playing the game again, I noticed it lagged terribly.

-So I checked GPU-Z. The clock speeds were 100mhz/150mhz. This is weird and wrong and I can't seem to find a solution to it.

-Then on one fine day I came to check GPU-Z again, and to my surprise the clock speeds went back to normal. I took note of what was going around and found out that the gpu speeds will only go back to normal if I was watching YouTube

It works the same if I opened this video too. The video card will downclock itself back to 100/150 if I closed the video or YouTube.

-I tried even tried updating the Bios but to no avail :(

There must be something wrong here. It is too weird that I have to open a video before I play my games... plz help :(

Have you installed the driver which has the Catalyst Control Center?
Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads
I think it was the Onboard Graphics Driver which is ~600 MB. Once you have the Catalyst Control Center you can go from Start > Catalyst Control Center
and change which video card you want to use. I currently have mines set to use the 7690 at all times.

You can change the graphics card by going into Catalyst Controller and selecting Switchable Graphics Methods under the Power Options.

does it not throttle itself depending on demands of each program. I did the same with mine, the speed will vary depending on how demanding a task it is trying to accomplish. I would imagine during games, it goes to full throttle.
but the fact that yours shipped incomplete is a bit odd.

If its a problem with performance it could be your power management.
Go to control panel > power options. Select High Performance, you can also go further into change plan settings > Change Advanced Power Settings and manually change what you want to be given priority.

If you have Switchable Graphics set to based on application needs you can add applications by going back into Catalyst Controller > Switchable Graphics, then browsing for all the apps you want to add and setting it to high performance or power saving.

Thing is, I'm able to switch the graphics to the 7690m. I've changed switchable graphics method to based on powersource so I can just switch between intel and amd. But once I switched to amd graphics the speeds shown is only 100/150 instead of it's stock clocks 725/900.

Power Management doesn't help. It only changes the speed priority of the cpu.

btw the link you gave me is a different one, in comparison to the one I posted above. I don't know if the drivers are still the same though.

I don't know dude, it will ONLY throttle if I am watching youtube or some other videos. I'm confused at why it did not throttle when it comes to games.

So if I want it to run at maximum clock rate I will have to open a video and play my game at the same time.. It's kinda disturbing to me.

Lenovo Ideapad Support & downloads - Lenovo - Drivers & Downloads Enter the S/N found on the Lenovo box or the bottom of your laptop. That should send you to the correct drivers my y470p has: CB14221816 for the serial number

    ATI Power Settings

This is the only other thing I can think of, is yours set to Maximum Performance for ATI graphics.

I think your issue may be that if you're reading GPU-z WRONG. It's not being "throttled" it just turns itself down when it's not being used.

You need to select the drop down menu and choose MAX reading

It's that simple. I really hope my computer wouldn't lock at max clock speed since then I'd have terrible battery life.
