Yep, I have had mine for over a week and have been pinching myself everyday to confirm that all this is not a dream!

Seriously, for the specs, size, weight and bulletproof Lenovo build quality, this has to be the deal of the year at only $579.

I'll put up some pics of it later tonight, as there isn't much coverage of it on the web.

One reviewer said that one of the cores on the Y430 is locked by Lenovo and they charge $60 to unlock it. Seems strange but any truth to this bh661?

Yeap. I saw the deal yesterday. It looks pretty interesting. One question though. It comes with integrated graphics right?

I can't find any info on it in the circuit city site.

I read the review you were talking about but can't for the life of me figure oute why Lenovo would lock one of the cores. I haven't really noticed any performance lags, and Windows Vista specifies that I'm running a Core2 Duo T5800 @ 2.0 GHz. Incidentally, how would one check if both cores are functional???

I picked up one of these today, it's pretty sweet. Thanks for mentioning this OP, I would have never known about this otherwise!

I checked the Performance Tab in Task Manager (right click on the taskbar) and both cores seemed to be working.

When you unplug the AC adapter to use the battery, it makes a real loud beep - does anyone know how to disable that? Thanks!

Thanks for the answers. I was amazed that they would lock a core (and had never heard anything like it ever happening before) but just wanted to ask before I recommended it to a friend.

@a4anish: I'd assume the beep setting is in BIOS like thinkpads but can't confirm. Poke around in BIOS for "sounds" or something like it and you should find something.

Might this have a nice LED backlit screen on it? If so that is an awesome deal I might have to go get me one.

And yeah the locked cores is BS if it has a Core2 Duo T5800 processor the only person that locked a core was the reviewer himself.

Got this for my little brother and I wanted to keep it for myself! Solid build quality, lots of features, good performance, good battery life, dirt cheap price, what's not to like? I'll have a quick look (no photos, sorry, camera was in luggage already) article on it up soon at oredigger.net (Tech Break).

Note that this is from a Macbook Air owner who is holding off on a laptop purchase until the HP 6930p "24-hour edition" hits the market. The Y430 is a positively beastly machine at a very nice price, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a sub-$900 laptp. Above that, I'd think about a Dell XPS or maybe a higher-end IdeaPad, but this thing is loaded!

    OP,

    Thanks for the heads up.

I ran out and bought this, awesome machine (I hope!)

Here is what happened, I wanted to get every ones thoughts.

1st thing I do with a new laptop is run DeadPixelBuddy :)

Good news was after I ran deadpixelbuddy I have none !

However, after I ran it, my left mouse button would not work.

I kept trying things and nothing.

I finally got a ton of what looked like HW errors, like bus i/o errors,
file access errors, very strange stuff.

I rebooted, perfect ever since ...

Do you thin DPB could have caused this.

Think I have a flaky trackpad and should swap ?

    TIA.

I ran DPB and had no such problems so it could be a one-off event. Wait and see if it happens again and then call Lenovo.

ThinkPad Power Mamager has option to disable beep. BIOS may also has this option. BIOS may also has option to disable/enable multiple core.

Curious as to the thoughts of Vista on this machine.
I've ordered it for a family member (who is not the most computer savy person). I plan to clean as much of the bloatware from the machine immediately.

But I'm also inclined to do a fresh install of XP on this machine (I have minimized using nLite). My experience with installing XP instead of Vista has primarily been done on Dells. Is it something I should consider on a Lenovo?

    Thanks all-

RT what did you think of the laptop screen, colorwise mine looks a bit washed out? this is in comparision to screens on a hp dv9500t and a toshiba a205-5800

I'll let you know when I get home from work.
I didn't actually turn it on. Simply checked out the physical condition of the laptop.

    hi all,
i recently purchased the lenovo Y430.
i have found that every time i restart my laptop, i have to manually connect to my wireless network, even though i always select the "connect automatically when network is in range" option.
the option is not being saved.

any suggestions on how i can avoid having to manually connect on each reboot?

P.S. i also tried disabling IPv6, but that didn't work.

Saw this today, and I was really impressed. Wondering whether to get this or the T400 now.... But there's flex in the T400 keyboard and none here, am I right?

gauntamerande, you have to uninstall lenovo's wireless management software. then you can set the options under properties to permanently connect automatically.

What about the whole news of Circuit City going out of business. Wouldn't you be afraid to buy there?
