Yesterday I received my Y410p, brand new ( HD+ screen and 24gb sad version incase your wondering), but upon starting it up for the first time I'm having some issues.

I followed the instructions given, put in the battery, plug in the cord and hit the power button, but after the lenovo screen I got stuck with an error message "Windows could not finish installing. Restart to try again"

Restarting did nothing to solve this and no matter what I tried its just not going to work.

I decided to grab my own copy of Windows 8 pro and just install it myself. After making boot from disk possible in the BIOS I made it all the way to choosing which partition to instal on.
I tried installing on the C: Windows OS partition but it cannot be installed, that partition is formatted to GPT. I stopped there and decided I needed help.

I am a reasonably techy guy, but I've been a Mac user for the past 5 years so this is relatively new to me. Really I just want to know what options I have.

    1) Could I install my own copy of Windows somehow? It would save me the trouble of removing some programs from lenovo, but is it safe/possible? Will reformatting the C: drive effect anything? Is that even the right partition to install Windows 8 pro to?

    2) If I can't install my own copy, what do you recommend I do? I've tried calling customer support but I never get through it seems. If I can fix this myself I'd like to, but if I need to send it back I will.

    Any help is appreciated

Well I would love to not have to send it back, and as much as I think linux is great, I bought a windows computer so I wouldn't have to use wine to play games.

Is there no way at all that I can install my own copy of windows 8? I know discussing the first option isn't allowed on most forums but I am alright with morally grey.

You can. Drivers for Win 7 and Win 8 are on Lenovo's site. Unfortunately, you need to install windows on the laptop to extract the windows 8 serial built into it :p

Try booting in safe mode or use startup repair.

I can't help you with the first option, buccaneer. Yarrr be on yer own, landlubber.
