    FYI,

    The U300s specs are now in http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ipbook.pdf. It also indicates availability of the U300s as 11/11/11. Seems like everyone likes that date for some reason.

    The LCD panel specs for the U300s don't look impressive. I guess I should not be surprised.

    Thanks for posting that link.

    All of the (currently known) Ultrabooks seem to have issues. What don't you like about the LCD -- that it's glossy and 200 nits?

    That and the 1366x768 resolution isn't too great when compared to 1600x900 or 1440x900. Contrast is higher than most average laptop screens which is a plus.

    1366x768 is the current standard for Ultrabooks so that's not a negative. As you probably know, there only one Ultrabook that has higher resolution.

    Which Ultrabook are you referring to? I prefer 1440x900 or 1600x900. The rest of the specs looked oh so similar to the current ThinkPads. I am looking for higher quality. But it's unfair to judge until I've seen it in person.

    I am not impressed with the current crop of Ultrabooks. Too many compromises especially when compared to the MBA.

    The Lenovo's are attractive to me because of their reputation for having good keyboard. I got a hands on yesterday with the new ASUS UX21. The keyboard sucks.

    Not sure what you're asking. The Acer Aspire, Lenovo IdeaPad U300s, Toshiba Portege Z830 and the almost Ultrabooks like Samsung Series 9, Fujitsu Lifebook SH771, etc. all have 1366x768 displays. The only exception, with higher resolution, is the Asus UX31 (1600x900).

    I'm not saying that 1366x768 is good enough for most people; I'm just pointing out that it seems to be the de facto standard for these "generation 1" models.

    Yea, for some reason I thought the Toshiba was 1600x900.

    Oh well. :(

    The review says that 7 hours of battery life (6h 52min) was WITH wifi & web surfing. That's pretty sweet. They also say the display is "wonderfully bright and crisp", so at least it seems to be a decent quality 720p screen.

    u300s is too much for me, I'm waiting for U300 which is just 5mm thicker than U300s if I remember correctly. Also I hope that Lenovo drop U300 to $699 or something.

    Still waiting on an official US release... a few sites had the U300s for preorder, but everything appears out of stock or pre-release.

    edit: Just looked at that spec sheet PDF... the release says Nov 11, but maybe it means November of 2011, not 11/11/11. Bummer
