    Hi all,

Lately I was looking to buy a bluetooth mouse for my X200 to avoid having to use a USB dongle, but let's face it, bluetooth mice aren't exactly as good as their proprietary counterparts when it comes to battery life and the amount of selection out there. (Both Microsoft and Logitech only have a couple of bluetooth mice)

Seeing how the X200 has a docking station which adds more USB ports, this tells me that there should be some unused USB ports on the motherboard. Would there be a way to find the pins, and solder on the USB receiver for something like a Logitech VX Revolution? (Some people might suggest the VX Nano, but I find the mouse to be uncomfortably small) If it does not fit, I might be willing to remove the dial-up modem to get it in there :)

I think this would have the benefit of not having to bother with a dongle, saving a USB port, and giving all the advantages of a bluetooth mouse without having to deal with the worse battery life and drivers.

So.. what do you guys think? Is this doable? Are the pinouts available for the docking station port?

So.. does that mean that the only way to do this mod would be to sacrifice an existing port, or put in a USB hub?

And are you sure that this is the case? If you are correct, it would mean that the Ultrabase uses nothing but a simple USB hub to get the job done.. I remember that some people were able to mod USB ports onto the Macbook Air by making use of the unused USB pinouts on the motherboard, so I still have some hope :p

Clearly there must exist at least one port for the UltraBase. If he's willing to sacrifice UltraBase functionality, it should be possible to use that port for this purpose instead.

I suppose there could be some sort of proprietary communication between the laptop and the UltraBase which transmits the USB over some other protocol.

all that work to spare one usb port is not worth it. find yourself a usb hub and get a good rf wireless mouse and keep your warranty

The X200 has a wireless USB antenna, but I don't think it comes with a card by default. You might look into installing one of those instead. No idea whether good wireless USB mice exist, but it's definitely an option to consider.
