In the thinkpad sticky forum I have read that laptop configured through lenovo or purchased through lenovo directly do not offer IWS. Is this true ?
I have clicked on the link provided and entered the machine type to determine IWS eligibility i.e 2777(X301) or 7465(x200s) which is configurable at lenovo US website and they are IWS eligible. Am I missing something? Do I have to pay extra for IWS eligibility? If I purchase thinkpad in US will I get warranty support in India?

It's my understanding and if I'm misinformed anyone please feel free to correct me, that configure to order machines bought directly from Lenovo do not have IWS, nor can you add it at a later date. It either has it or it don't.

It's an interesting question. The 7465 model in the tabook says it does not have IWS, though it comes up as though it does. My own R60 is listed as having IWS service, but it says it does not in the tabook. I never had to look because I've not taken my machine outside the country.

Perhaps the look up is incorrect. That often happens with the warranty look up. I guess the best thing to do would be to call Lenovo and ask unless someone here can clear it up?

usually the notebooks sold via Lenovo are cheaper and offer various customizations. The notebook sold via the retailers are more expensive, but usually does offer IWS. You need to decide between price and global warranty.

    Not correct.

Most of the T400 and T500 configure to order model numbers that I haev tested DO show up as eligible for IWS. In fact I think ALL of the Thinkpad line is covered by IWS because they are the business line. Dont expect the same on a 500 dollar U series though.

There is a place on the Lenovo website that you can enter and check the config model number that shows up when you place your CTO order in the online shopping cart at Lenovo.com.

Sweet my T61p 6460-8WU qualifies for IWS! I had no idea, I guess one more reason to like lenovo, they haven't soured me yet, even if there are a few small things to gripe about.
