Yea, I've been hearing speculations that the t61 will be coming in early may...it's almost may now...shouldn't there be more news / information regarding this highly anticipated machine? Or daresay I that this is all a malicious hoax put on by the fellows at notebookreview.com to get our hopes up but that is based not on fact but on fiction...?

    Regards,

    Mliu

I thought you had some connections on the T61?
Regardless, I did a quick google search on the matter.

Here is another article confirming the a may release with some T61 details:
    http://www.hardspell.com/english/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=264

I doubt it is a hoax but I'll look a little deeper into the issue.

EDIT: looked at the site superhob provided
    now thats hot

I like that the 14" widescreen has a dedicated GPU. This makes it a truly viable alternative to the Asus V2Je and HP nc6400.

superhob, that university website's posting could easily be a mistake. One thing that is telling is that that thinkpad is equipped with a core 2 duo...supposedly the T61's will have Santa Rosa. I wouldn't draw from the anecdotal evidence of a post by Darren or from a university website that is put up by humans, who commit human error, that the T61 is indeed coming and in May!

Daidojih, if you read carefully, that posting is very similar if not exactly the same as Andrew's posting here on NBR. Basically, that article is an anthology of forum members' calls to sales reps, asking them about the T61. Now I don't know about you, but are these sales reps privy to this kind of information? Especially on release dates, features? Perhaps...but then again, this is based on anecdotal, not actual, evidence.

Sorry, I did not really make myself clear in my previous post.
I am not suggesting its actual cold hard fact. I am just confirming that other people (not only this site) are saying this.
its a malicious hoax set up by the entire WWW >=O

You seemed to be saying that the fact that it has a Core 2 Duo means it isn't Santa Rosa; just to be clear, the Santa Rosa platform still makes use of the Core 2 Duo processors - these won't be changed until Penryn at the end of this year (the successor to Merom, which is the Core 2 Duo processor).

Of all people, shouldn't you have "connections" with Lenovo Mliu? I still haven't forgotten your shameful past behavior regarding the T61 rumors.

Just sit tight and wait like a good boy. ^^

From posts in various forums, the T61 is definitely coming. It's not a question of if, it is just a question of when.

In the HP forum there is a thread that links to an article that examines in depth the changes that will be brought by the Santa Rosa platform. Very intriguing.

If your old computer can tie you over for the next couple of months, I would certainly wait. But the prices will certainly be high during the first couple of months.

This is all an elaborate hoax...the thinkpad was rumoured to come out may 8. It is days within that time. And still no announcement. The real date the T61 will come out is on the 61st week of the year, that is, sometime in December...

Don't you guys see? It's all about prophecy. T42 came out on the 42nd week of the year; t43 came out on the 43rd week of year...It is a pattern that IBM purposefully made but that only the smartest catch on to (that is, me). So, sorry to all you thinkpad t61 waiters! It won't come out till December or the 61st week of the year.

61st week would be kind of bad since the year only has 52 or 53 weeks

15.4" laptops with WUXGA resolution are not new. The Dell Latitude D820 is one example. However , the T61 will have a 14.1" WSXGA+ option that is new. That should give it a huge advantage over the Dell Latitude D630, which will be similar. I am still mad at Dell for not releasing any information, but that is another post.

Everyone here is focused on higher and higher resolution.

But has anyone stopped for a moment and considered the possibility that there is a point beyond which the text and the icons are just so tiny that they are impossible to see???

I know you can always scale up the text. But there's no comparing to displaying properly sized text at an LCD display's native resolution. I challenge anyone to be able to read anything on a 15inch WUXGA screen for an extended period of time without getting eye strain.

I am currently using a 17inch WSXGA, and displaying everything at native resolution. To my eyes, and believe me these eyes are quite young, that's the perfect size. I don't know if I can live with anything smaller than this.

If you look at other major brands, no body announce much about the next upcoming laptop, why?? To push the current stock out as much as possible, there are promotions at almost every brand right now.

I think Lenovo cannot bare to slipping their rank further (Thinkpad is already at the bottom of all big players, sales term), so they'll release their next flagship at the same time as others, and very competitive too, no doubt about it.

I hope that the next T61 will gain back the IBM Thinkpad legend. Difficult, but not impossible. Keep up faith. :)

You fail again. The actual Lenovo CFO is Xuezheng "Mary" Ma.

And the rumors about the T71? Hah! I want some of that cool-aid you're drinking. Probably from the same source where you digged up rumors about the "yellow" thinkpad huh.

No, Xuezheng Mary Ma is only the nominal CFO...the real CFO values her privacy and will not disclose her name...She works in secret but is the highest paid CFO in the world. Her name is Tai Seng Peng. She will dominate the world.

I think this problem you described is the reason more companies are working on resolution independence; I know Apple in particular has put a heavy emphasis on this, with the next version of Mac OS X the idea is for the OS and all apps to support full resolution independence, which is intended to make sure everything scales properly regardless of the particular resolution you are running at (so you could run at a very high resolution with a very high resolution display, but the OS would still scale things like icon sizes and text appropriately).

I believe Microsoft is also working on this.

The announce date for Santa Rosa is May 9th, nobody is supposed to announce anything regarding a laptop with Santa Rosa until that time. Lenovo would be in trouble with Intel if they did. They will announce on May 9th, and not a day earlier. Trust me.

Andrew, are you saying it will only be announced May 9th and not availible? That would suck major b a l l s.

So I have your personal gurnatee. Well hope it is correct. Or else I"ll get the CFO of IBM to say bad things about NBR.

Once they make an announcement, It'll likely be available the same week, or next day. I believe that was the case with the T60 WS I think.

People talk that most of the companies will announce their products within 2-3 weeks, after Intel will announce the Santa Rosa.

I guess the current price drop of the t60 has something to do with this.
