What are my options to connect my IBM T60 ThinkPad to my HDTV to receive both audio and video to the TV. What cables, what inputs / outputs etc? Can it be done? I see no S video on my laptop nore do I see a DVI output. Only can see VGA, HDMi etc.

With a T60, your best bet is probably to use VGA + an audio-out cable that plugs into your computer's headphone port. If you have a dock, I believe there is DVI-out on there, so that would work even better, although you'll still need the audio cable, because DVI does not carry audio.

Depends on what inputs your tv or AV system has. When I had my T60, I used the dock. DVI to HDMI adapter to the tv. Digital Coax to Toslink adapter to the receiver. Worked perfectly.

Still wouldn't carry audio, DVI is analog where as HDMI is digital.

Best bet is VGA-VGA from Computer to TV for video, and then a Y-Cable split and plug into the Red and White ports on back of TV the other end of the wire splits in a standard 3.5mm jack so you can put into your T60 or any regular speakers!

    DVI is analogue?

    DVI means digital visual interface.

That's why for audio you either use digital coax straight from the dock, or a toslink adapter depending on what your AV setup supports. If you use the 3.5mm jack on the machine you'll certainly be limited to stereo.

I haven't had good luck with vga input on Sony tv's. DVI to HDMI is straightforward for video was easy to setup in the Ati control panel.

The cheapest option would a VGA to VGA + a 3.5mm audio line. I personally use this option for all my laptop, however I would turn off scaling (zooming and cropping) on you HDTV.
