Upgraded The Stock CPU T2390(Dual Pentium) to T5750(Core 2 Duo) for $4(inc shipping)DDR2 Ram to 4GB PC2-6400(800Mhz, runs at 667Mhz),Windows 7SP1(integrated) Full version x64.
I have a T7500 in bound .. The Upgrades put a Little more Kick in the step of this Thinkpad,, I got it as gift and now its my Backup Notebook(not that I'll need it for that, I dont have a skirt hitting me up for a free notebook or a friend in need,, ) Everything works including finger print sensor to identity safe which can log me in to various websites.
Cheers

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
_61 series ThinkPads can do alot of upgrades. Why not just fully upgrade to a Penryn CPU like a T8100/T8300. They are literally ~10-15 dollars.

Tried the T8100 Penryn,,this is a Merom Board with an embedded analogue sensor, The T8100 boots up to loading windows and then shuts off, Did Middletons Bios Upgrade from inside windows 32 bit on a separate laptop drive,,it did not take,,changed the bios number from 2.23-1.08 to 2.24-1.08,,Middleton is fee based and I would be too, if i did the bios modding.

You might get the impression that middleton bios isn't free because of the title of the topic, but Middleton didn't make that topic, it was another member who said he would be willing to pay for an SATA2 mod. Middleton was the first to unlock the controller and other than some voluntary contributions, there is no money involved.
ps. I have some T7300 chips that would be a nice upgrade for this type of machine that I'm selling for $4 each (about 50 in total), I also have some T5270 for less than $1. I'm going to have them listed here eventually, but at the moment you can contact me at thinkpads.com forum if you'd like one or more. Don't let the low price fool you, I've extensively tested each chip while evaluating the motherboards from the laptops they were pulled from and unlike many scrap parts dealers who pull them from dead or abused laptops, these are all from the highest grade available and I'm just trying to find good homes for them so they don't end up going to gold salvagers.
ps. The middleton bios should allow you to use a penryn by shutting down the thermal sensing error, but it won't allow your board to properly read the penryn's more advanced digital temp sensor. All the performance should be there, but it's not equal to a penryn board. -
Thanks, I have Intel T-7500(Merom-4M) 800Mhz FSB, 4MB- L2($9/free shipping) coming in Monday out of Charlotte,NC,,Agreed this model uses a analogue embedded sensor on the board, Anyway this is a Moot Point,,It sold today, I sold my Lenovo G530 with installed Samsung 470 SSD, Win 7SP1 X64, 4GB DDR2 with "New" Intel T6500-Penryn[ came with T3400 Merom- Installed New Intel T6500 Penryn absolutely no sensor error-in HW upgrades for GL40 Chipset, this Forum , I use Arcticlean Kit to remove old thermal compound and prepare the surface for New Thermal Compound, I like Arctic Silver 5 for Thermal compound..
