    IBM(Leveno) Thinkpad R50e

    Wondering what everyone thinks about this laptop:

    Wondering:
    1) How much battery life?
    2) What kind of games could I play on it? (this isn't a gaming laptop - but a diversion once in a while would be nice)
    3) Is the screen of high quality? Specifically, will it be faded to the point of unusability outdoors in the sun?
    4) Does it come with a touch pad, or just a track point?

    Edit I checked the review on this in the "reviews" section of the website, but it appears the configuration above is significantly different (namely, this one is Centrino, I believe, so it has WIFI..)

    1. 4 hours seems I would say.
    2. Some earlier games, this laptop will not put good 3d marks.
    3. Average matte XGA screen, although it does not say that in the specs.
    4. I don't know.

    Keep in mind that the R50e will not take the modular bay options for the the R50/R51/R52.

    For #4, it should come with both a touchpad and a trackpoint. Also, to clear things up, you don't need Centrino to have wireless; Centrino is simply Pentium M + Intel Chipset + Intel Wireless.

    For #4

    The R50e I just bought with $849 doesn't include touchpad, only has Trackpoint. I almost returned it immediately, but I got used to it after one week.

    Why RAM speed of this model is 266mhz (it's PC2700 DDR)?
    PC2700 should be 333mhz. I can't find same memory from tigerdirect, bestbuy or staples etc.
    The additional memory of 512M provided by IBM itself is PC2100 266mhz.
    It's very strange.

    Iam planning to buy this notebook.

    I will add 512 MB RAM to it.

    My typical tasks are programming in Java and C++ and ofcourse lots of browsing..

    Please tell me your reviews and some suggestion.

    They are nice notebooks. Not as good as the T series. They are little heavier and have more plastic, but still have great keyboards and build quality.

    Weight and build material, definitely. The R-series is still well-built, but is primarily of ABS plastic.

    So in terms of hardware both are similarly configurable? Or are there things that IBM only puts on T-series? Dedicated graphics cards? Flexview?

    I'm not sure if the R-series have FlexView, but the choices for graphics are pretty much the same as for the T-series. Lenovo just recently added the fingerprint ID as an option to the R-series.

    The R-series does have IPS (FlexView as called by IBM) screen (not on all models obviously). IMO there is nothing on the T that you can't get on the R. They even take the same 9 cell battery. In fact the R has better DVDR options because it uses a bigger modular bay.
