I know my school has a discount program with Dell, HP, and Apple, but I want a T60 dammit! Does anyone know if IBM has some sort of student discount program in general?

    I got my t60 from www.universitycomputers.com

They are affiliated with BU, but I was able to order from them even though I am a student at a different university.

Wait, so anybody "from outside" can just place an order through that link with their discount?

Yes, they do [ link]. They do have a educational discount site, however, you should know that when you purchase from that site, the sales on the main site do not apply. Not only that, but the Duo 2 Core is note available via that site.

To get a good student discount, I found the EPP site to not be very useful. I had called the education help number and explained my situation, university and the specification that I wanted. Sometimes its a discounted price, sometimes it is not. I had to call a couple different agents to get a good price.

That University computers website seems to be basically the same as Lenovo prices. (Actually the Lenovo Canada is slightly more expensive, but I haven't been to a single U.S. site that is more expensive /same as Lenovo Canada)

I had just ordered my T60 last week and contacted them this week about a student discount...the rep told me that since I already received the 3 upgrades (two of which were FREE) that are in effect until 10/31, I would not be eligible for any additional discounts.

Who did you contact, and which upgrades were free?

Lenovo has a free hard drive, battery, and DVD burner upgrade that ends tonight, probably midnight EST. The hard drive upgrade really isn't free, it's free to go from a 60 to a 100, but the base drive is 40, so you end up paying the $20 for the upgrade to 60 gigs and then that upgrades to 100 for free.

Wow those are pretty weak discounts. I am quite shocked.

I don't know much about buying in Canada, but I will say this, call the 866 number for thinkpad and talk to them, they can sometimes find you a deal.

Asked my campus bookstore for prices. They charge more than Lenovo does and their return policy is not as good.

It is not like Apple. They have pretty uniform
    Education prices.

My campus bookstore seems to supply Acer as its primary laptop. I asked about Dell because apparently there is a deal set up for faculty and students. Finally reached someone who had knowledge on the topic, gave me a long-distance number to call, did so, spoke to a person who apparently runs the deals for students. Not much of a discount though, didn't seem worth going through a third party.
