When I insert a rewritable cd on the drive, I get a DLA problem. It indicated that I can read the disc but not write on it. I checked out "start>all programs" and there is an IBM DLA software there.
Should I uninstall it? What other softwares can be uninstalled safely without messing up with the laptop as well as the wifi?

Packet writing software in my experience has been very flakey. Unless you want to use it, I would get rid of it.

Are we talking about the supplied "Sonic" program?

DLA is part of the Sonic Package.

You can remove only DLA, but you will of course need some burning software to burn discs. I personally prefer Nero.
IBM software DLA problem.
