I have a T60 and previously the monitor light was flickering then the screen would go blank, windows was still running as I could faintly see it in the background. Sometimes the image would reappear briefly on pressing Fn F7 and then it would be gone again.

I have replaced the inverter but now the light has totally gone.

    Any ideas appreciated!

Mine was doing exactly the same, and it was bad AC adapter. After the new adapter it is stable.

Probably the CCFL display backlight (fluorescent tube). I've had a couple go out on my T42's.

Just last month I had a T42 backlight replaced by MoniServ. I'll be home in a couple of days to check on the results. On another T42 (XGA), I got a used display lid complete on ebay, but the one I just had repaired by MoniServ was the rarer SXGA+ model.
