    hi there --

i'm trying to choose a light-weighted notebook with 14" screen. after reading a lot of reviews I've stopped at IBM T42 in and LG LM60 with integrated video (LM60-1888).

Purpose: home office work, libraries, travel. Office, Internet, e-mail.

can anyone here give me pros and cons for both models?

AFAIK, there was an IBM-LG plant in Korea, and LG was producing notebooks for IBM.

Probably you have to keep in mind that I know IBMs pros (read a lot of discussions and oppinions in the forums, and reviews, too).

So what do I really LOOSE if I choose LG?

    - ThinkLight
    - AccessIBM restore&recovery
    - IBM worldwide warranty&service
    - LG is not so solid as IBM => a risk of a fatal crash in some cases is higher
    - probably, the T42's bottom is heating a little bit less, then LGs

    ... what else?

I've to say also that I hate notebooks that have too noisy fans and that are heating too much...

(In fact, LG's configuration looks pretty good for it's money! For the same-configured IBM in Russia I would pay $2000+ vs $1400 for LG...)

You'll also loose the best laptop keyboards known to man and the Active Protection for the hard drive in case you drop it. I never hear the fan on my T42. It does get a little warm on the underside, but not bad at all.
