    Hello,
Recently (2 months) I have the following problem: while doing something with video applications such as Skype video, watching videos in Windows Media Player my laptop freezes - black screen like if it was turned off.

I realy don't know what to do....sometimes it can happen sometimes not. So it is no constant freezing. You will never know when it will happen

I tried to download latest video drivers...no result. Changed video codec - nothing, updated my web camera drivers - nothing...

    please help

Does your computer actually turn off or the screen just goes blank?

Do you remember installing any software before this happened?
Here's a couple of things to get you started...
Check if you have all the hotfixes for your OS... especially if you're using SP3.
Monitor your GPU temp to see if it's overheating (you can use ATI Tool).
Lastly, this may sound stupid, but check your power management settings to see if you have accidentally changed your screen settings when your computer is idling.

I remember that I updated my system thought Lenovo update util..
    I have SP2. Do I have to install SP3?
Last week I reinstall XP, and for video I installed only simple driver without any tools. I will install them to check.

The problem still exist(( Most often freezing occurs while the other side (person) turns on the camera. As the result I have black screen. But it happens randomly. For example after reboot the same activities will not bring to freezing.

I have a t60p that originally came with vista that I removed and replaced with XP. Three different occasions I clean installed XP, all three times I encountered problems with the ati drivers. To make a long story short, I ultimately came to the conclusion that .NET updates were the culprit.

The best advice I can give if this is your problem is to use Vista. I have not had a single problem with my computer since deciding to abandon my old friend XP and move on to vista.

If you absolutely must use XP, then find and install old versions of all .NET apps (1.0, 2.0, 3.0) and do not allow them to be updated.

By the way, It did not work to uninstall .NET and ATI drivers then reinstall to solve my video problems, nor did using a restore point. I had to go all the way back to a clean install.

I had installed .NET 2.0 and 3.5. I uninstalled both. And install 3.0. I will inform you about changes.
    Thanks

I am having this same problem. I recently updated my ATI drivers and then the problem occured (usually when opening Windows media player to watch a video). The screen goes blank and I have to manually turn off and on the computer! I right now find that when I remove the battery and run the computer from the mains, the problem doesnt occur (but Ive only been doing this for a couple hours). It could be the battery and cpu is overheating. Anyone have any ideas??

Sounds like a loose video cable from monitor screen to motherboard.
