    Hi everyone...

I'm facing a very odd problem on my T41p laptop (a bit more than 2 years old). The display has suddenly started flashing / go completely black - sometimes coming back with tons of noise or garbling on the display, sometimes causing Windows XP bluescreens in the ATI driver...

After disassembling thinking that the LCD flex cable would be loose I noticed that the display always comes back if I press on the ATI Fire GL chip situated between spacebar and the trackpoint buttons. It was no issue with the flex cable, instead it seems that the ATI chip doesn't make 100% connection with the system board.

Anyone knows if the ATI chip is socketed in any way, nothing is mentioned about this in the service manual (only CPU is shown to be replaceable).

    Really odd issue, isn't it??

Hope anyone has any ideas here!

    Thanks in advance!

    /Werner
