I can not concentrate on my work due to the cycling noise from the upper left part of my T41. This problem has been reported by many previous users. My question is if this could be fixed at all? I want to send it back for repair (replacing the fan?) but not sure if this will work.
The fan makes noises even if no program runs on my laptop--with AC power or with battery power.
Other than that it is a good machine but the noise makes me really annoyed. If it can't get fixed I will consider returning it (since i bought it for less than 30 days).
any ideas on this? thank you for your input.

that's just odd, I have a T41p and a T40 and both are whisper quiet, it has to be an issue with either just the T41 or a certain batch of notebooks that were manufactured by IBM so I would say send it back for repair or demand an exchange and try your luck with another machine.

Hi guys, I want to update my post a bit after I sent my T41 (23731FU) back for repair. I got it back today--the ibm technician changed the motherboard, updated the bios and replaced the fan. Unfortunately it does not help to solve the noisy fan problem even for a bit. Plus now I have two scratchs on the cover which I can not get rid of--I've called them for a replacement. If I still have the same problem there I would return it and buy a different brand.

Hi all, I can not help complaining here again for the T41 laptop after i got it back from repair two days later. As i said in my last post, they changed the motherboard---you know what, now I have a blurring and blinking screen every time i start my computer---I used the PC doctor to check the hardwares and it tells me that my laptop cannot pass the visual memory test!!
Now i can not work on this laptop and have to wait for the arrival of the new one.:_((((
