Hi - I was wondering what the deal is with the fan noise? My husband "built" his own T40 and doesn't have the issue, but I am planning to order a T41. Does it make a difference if you build your own? A cycling fan will drive me crazy as I work in a quiet room. thanks for any advice.

I'm using a T41p as a type and it was certainly not self-built and it's whisper quiet, so it does not make a difference if you build your own. Using a Pentium M 1.6 GHz chip that stays cool, this machine rarely gets hot.

Sorry - clarification. He "built his own" online at IBM, in other words, he didn't buy one of the pre-set models they sell. I didn't mean he actually put the thing together, believe me :)
Glad to hear yours is quiet. Do you know your model or specs? Mine would be the 2379DKU...
